Rafa chose who took the penalties in which order in 2005. Possibly it was the same last night, and to be honest if it had come down to that kick to win it, Portugal would have wanted Ronaldo to be the one to take it.
I just seen this on another thread but apparently Ronaldo took the 5th and final penalty in Portugals last two knockouts one of which was against England and they won.
Lot of fuss about nothing. Fine lines at the end of the day.

Ronaldo is not a very likeable character, according to many but come on, this is bordering on ridiculous. The media have got to people, due to England going out and trying to put blame on those who didn't take penalties. So much so that people are looking for it, in other games.
If you watched, you would have seen the manager only consult with his staff, not the players. Then he went over and i assume announced who was taking them and in what order.
As posted above, some managers are so set in their ways that they will not even ask the players, but just put them forward. I would attatch no blame to Ronaldo for not being in the first couple of takers.

I just think we would be hypocrites defending Carroll when they blamed him for not taking a penalty, then used the same nonsense to blame Ronaldo.

It was the manager that decided who takes penalties and why. He read it out from a piece of paper before the shootout. Don't know why people keep making up stories about this. Ronaldo isn't the most likeable guys due to his ego. Ronaldo's arrogance is the reason he's at the top of his game though.
