give the guy a break ffs
he took over 6-8 weeks before the Euros
hes already said he;ll get the youngtsers on board
The press seem to love him. Other than that, I don't think anyone else finds his pre-historic, ultra-defensive tactics anything other than embarrassing.
Oh come on Ghodfather.
I have seen enough of him at Fulham, Liverpool and West Brom to realize that his methods are outdated at this level.
I expect him to bring through the youngsters, but his methods have already held back many of our talented players!
don't you think he should be given a chance? who else would have arry?
Careful, your bias is showing. As has been said he took over 2 months before the tournament and look at who he had playing! Unless you think he asked his players not to pass to each other? This team needs a massive rebuild.
I expect him to bring through the youngsters, but his methods have already held back many of our talented players!
===
which talented players has he 'held' back?
Well he obviously held Gerrard, Young and Oxlade from getting forward. With his 4-4-2 holding Gerrard and Parker back, and defensive wingers holding back our attacking threats!

So all these fans blaming Capello for his outdated 4-4-2 and attacking him for blaming fitness are backing Roy for the future!
I don't see any difference from Capello to Roy, except nationality!
young was played in an attacking position in every game and was largely disappointing, not hodgson fault.
gerrard is past it and was most effective sitting deep hitting long diagonals.
parker is talented at running about and closing people down, again did plenty of that.
i fail to see your argument
Arguably that was Gerrard's best tournament so I wouldn't say he held him back at all. He possibly got sick of him going for the fantasy pass over and over resulting in 3 assists and 50 passes flying into wide open spaces or to opposiiton feet.
Oh come off it!
Roy had his usually two defensive minded wingers. Milner and Young playing out wide, and told to cover the fullback at every chance.
4-4-2 meant we were always overrun in the middle which led to our midfield going back towards our defense.
If you can't see that Roy's system is outdated and unrealistic at this level, then you must be blind!
Oh look, another bitter Liverpool fan ready to slam Hodgson for not delivering instant success to his club.
I take it all of you supporting Roy were glowing with pride at our performance against Italy?
At least under someone like 'arry we'd have TRIED to win the game.
I am sorry but my England cap is on at the moment, and Roy's methods are holding us back!
If Capello had been the manager with that performance against Italy, then he would have been hung for it!

Italy? Not really.
France? Yes.
Ukraine? OK, I suppose.
Sweden? Absolutely.

======
how can you describe ashley young as defensive? he was a passenger in most games as he didn't track back and gave no cover to ashley cole.
milner on the other hand helped out his full back but still looked more of a threat than young.
the majority of england players are comfortable with a 4-4-2 system from club level.
he made a go of it with what he had to work with, if they fail spectacularly in the qualifiers or in the next tournament then fair enough
If Capello had been the manager with that performance against Italy, then he would have been hung for it!

If Capello was manager, we never would've faced Italy.
We would've been hammered by France, beaten by Sweden and probably end up scraping a draw against Ukraine.
The Italy performance was more embarrassing than the Germany 2010 result, where we actually tried to score!
France was a lucky set piece, and for the majority we were dominated by France.
Ukraine were dominating us for the majority of the game, and we were lucky because a keeper messing up.
Sweden again dominated the majority of the game, but we did well to get back into the game!
GALVIN.
Kenny would've tried to get the team playing attacking football and would've tried to win the game against Italy rather than opting for Hodgson's 10-0-0 formation.

So your bringing Kenny up, and say I am only having ago because Roy managed Liverpool?
How can you not see 4-4-2 is outdated!
Your article also outlines another of England's problems.
Nobody gets a second chance.
By far, the most ridiculous philosophy in history.

Utter dross.
Look at our record under Capello, in both competitive and friendly games.
Then come back and apologise for being such a silly sausage.
