Daniel Day-Lewis - There will be Blood
Robert De Niro - Taxi Driver
Javier Bardem - No Country for Old Men
Heath Ledger - The Dark Knight
....there are so many.
OJ Simpson in his court case
Drogba v Liverpool at Anfield in the Champions league. He was fouled on the side line and fell off the pitch holding his face. He then looked to see if the ref was looking, which he wasn't and Drogba rolled back on to the pitch and rolled aroundf until the game was stopped.
This has to be the best acting i have ever seen.
In terms of films i think Gary Oldman in Leon was amazing.

Brad Pitt - Fight Club
tell me this is a joke...??
Cracking list there Merto. Thought Danial Day Lewis was awesome in Gangs of New York. Method actor apparently.
Leonardo is good in Basketball diaries. All your choices are men as well so I think Charlize Theron deserves a mention for Monster - you would not know it was her if her name were not on the credits. Probably the best I've ever seen.
Reese Weatherspoon is also good in walk the line.
Jeff Bridges in The Big Labowski.
De Niro in taxi driver
Harvey Keitel is good in mean streets and delivers a strong, if challenging, performance in bad leuitenant.
Anthony Daniels as C3PO should win!
