He's looked at the situation knowing he could have helped solve it and like us is questioning our board! What's there to be suspicious about?
It does show that Wenger is battling the fans, the media, his player all thanks to the board......and still makes us a top 4 team........guys a legend......even the media seems to be backing him now....most media articles seem to call RVP a traitor after what Wenger has done for him....
David Dein was part of the Arsenal board.............
Its pretty obvious Dein has told Usmanov a few things
Was just about to post this... the timing and use of emotive language suggest this is merely him trying to get the fans on his side.
He claims to have been a gooner for life (what's the matter... aint they got teams in Uzbekistan?)
But to me it seams he just wants to launder his dirty money through our club. As much as i'd like to match the silly wages chelsea and city are offering, I'd like us to do it without criminal aid
I had/have my doubt about the letter as well. One thing for sure, It gave us a new topic of discussion. I started to get fed up with all the RVP's articles!
FINALLY someone else is looking at it with a critical eye.
It was planned well in advance. I wouldn't be surprised if Darren drafted RVP's little message himself.
To the original poster's question.
I can understand exactly what is said. What do you want to know?
He's looked at the situation knowing he could have helped solve it and like us is questioning our board! What's there to be suspicious about?
------------------------------------------------------------
Oh yeah, you're right! His emotive language is all to do with his love for the club and nothing at all to do with the manipulation of Arsenal fans!
And the timing ... purely coincidental, right?
I'm not saying that he doesn't care about the club - after all, it's an investment to him and he wants to see some return for his money. I'm very pessimistic though about his so-called love of the club. I'm also shocked that so many people can be so easily taken in by his words ... if they even are his.
"Be honest, who can actually follow his objections to Arsenal's business plan and his apparent dislike of the self-financing policy introduced by the previous shareholders?"
I explained last year in this post why it doesn't work.

I can understand exactly what is said. What do you want to know?
----------------------------------------------------------------
I want to know who else can understand it and who else is jumping on the bandwagon because they're depressed about RVP's departure and thinks someone else feels their pain.
Sorry for not making that clear.
Alisher Usmanov is right
Why would the board reject a rights issue? Ie investment of £100M (Non dividend) wipe off a few debts
I'll tell you why its because the value of your shares goes down thats why the Arsenal board have rejected it
They want to increase their values of their holdings
i'm happy with the statement tbh because at least it takes a bit of pressure of Wenger and people can see he doesn't just not spend money for the fun of it.
Usmanov has done what any decent business would do and seized an opportunity to boost his value.
He speaks as though he understands the fans fears and supports them and wants what's best for them.
He also offers some clarity over who's to blame for our financial stinginess, pointing the finger at the board, although to be suspected due to possible rifts between the two parties.
The element about gazidis cold call to the Russian telecoms company is purely to undermine him and further distance him from the fans as he is aware that many fans point the finger of blame at gazidis. If it is true though, which i suspect it is, then we have a very serious issue with a man like that at the helm of our club.
It's a well timed and well written piece of propaganda, and it's worked well. Includes large elements of truth, beefed up of course, slams the boards actions, making usmanov appear a 'man of the club'.
I personally believe he is correct in what he writes. The board should go, dein should be re instated with usmanov and long may wenger be our manager.
Just logged on and seen there's a letter from Usmanov to the Arsenal board.
About to read now...
[SPOILER ALERTS]?
"I want to know who else can understand it and who else is jumping on the bandwagon because they're depressed about RVP's departure and thinks someone else feels their pain."
Its not about jumping on the bandwagon.
Look, something bad has happened. The captain, only world class player left at Arsenal and the main goal scorer has decided to leave.
Usmanov owns 30% of the club. He has every right to complain when he believes the club is being run into the ground.
You cannot keep a club the size of Arsenal at the top when you lose 3 of your best players in consecutive years.
So I would be more worried if gooners weren't 'jumping on the bandwagon' as you suggest. How long do you honestly think, Arsene can keep us at the top when your best players leave without replacement?
Theo/Song are also coming to the end of their contracts. Vermealen is being tapped by Barca, Kos is now being approached by German clubs. Where does it end? Aren't you worried?

The entire reason behind this article was to make people ask themselves what motive Usmanov and Co had for writing that letter. I may have used some emotive language of my own to put my point across, it doesn't mean I don't see sense in some of what he's saying. I don't pretend to understand all of it and quite frankly, I don't know enough about running a football club to even offer an opinion on the financial ins and outs that are discussed in the letter. I'm focusing on his blatant manipulation of the fans - yes it's business, but not everyone sees it that way.
As for us not replacing our top players, who says that we won't replace RVP? The transfer window is long and Wenger has already shown he's willing to spend - I believe he at least is listening to the fans.
I worry about Arsenal every single day of every single transfer window, and most of the season too. Because I'm a real fan who has invested nothing in the club and wants to see success because I love the club, not because I would benefit financially.
I say I haven't invested anything in the club, but I did spend a packet on some Arsenal car mats a few weeks back ...
Okay back from having read it all through a couple of times...
Not sure where the confusion lies, cgg. All seems perfectly clear to me.
"The entire reason behind this article was to make people ask themselves what motive Usmanov and Co had for writing that letter."
There can be none apart from making fans aware that Arsenal football club and his investment are being put in jeopardy.
Stan Kroenke is a multi-billionaire. He owns nearly 66% of the shares. No one can force him to sell. Fans couldn't get deadly Doug (ex-owner of Aston Villa), who was just a multi-millionaire out till he retired from old age and ill health. How do you think anyone can exert pressure on a billionaire who doesn't even live in UK?
The point I am trying to make is any manipulation of the fans, blatant or not, is immaterial. In my opinion Usmanov is trying to improve his image with the fans, in case in the future Kroenke decides to sell. I believe that is likely as I explained in the articles I posted last year.
As for replacing RVP. I hope so. I also talk of names like Higuain. However, as others have pointed out, it is unlikely to happen. And I fear they are more right about that than any ambition I may have about Arsenal actually signing a name.
All this politicking is tedious......can't wait for the football to begin.
There can be none apart from making fans aware that Arsenal football club and his investment are being put in jeopardy.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Put in jeopardy? Really? Club going into liquidation anytime soon then?
There's two sides to every story, personally I prefer to trust in the current board whereas you obviously see sense in what Usmanov is saying.
In my opinion though, the manipulation of fans is only immaterial when they realise they're being manipulated and can form opinions even when taking that into account. Personally I dislike people playing on my emotions and see Usmanov in a negative light for both the timing of his letter and the choice of language he uses.

Are you calling my article tedious Mr Dgooner?
This leak is less well timed than the one i just took on my desk.

On another thread he said you lick your top lip when you type too.
with all the frustrations of the last few years you can just think 'get Usmanov in and splash the cash, all our problems will be solved'. really though we're putting complete control of our club in his hands and i some fans don't realise the significance of that. Our current board can definitely be too cautious but i genuinely believe in the next few years football will have mellowed from the crazy spending and the way we run the club will benefit us.
