I think that's a very harsh statement.
I don't think he didn't 'try to be fit' prior to this season.
Just because a player is injury prone does not mean that he cannot put his troubles behind him and go a whole season without being injured with there being a conspiracy theory behind it.
Take woodgate for example, came to us with a horrendous injury record and played a full season at the back with ledley king of all people. Following season he had injury problems as well but I just believe he just had his fair share of good luck as well as hard work to get through that season unscathed

and i really can't conceive of this 'one good season' idea - before this season, his average goal tally in the previous seven years was 13. not bad at all for a player who was always injured; and he only failed to reach double figures once in eight years.
