Really....i never took it as racist.
................
Why would you? It is offensive, yes, racist, bit of a toughie to call. If the guy who made the tweet is white, then it may be. If he is of the same race it is a bit hard to prove racism.
If he is of the same race it is a bit hard to prove racism.
========================
I dont see that as relevant, because he was insulting white people and making a generally sterotypical racist comment.
Aside from that though, I dont agree that a person can not make a racist comment against a person of the same race.
VC.
As I don't know it....how.can i know its racist in the way its used.
Two black men using it?..its like black people using ****er to desensitise it and make it mean nothing!
I dont agree with your comment that Rio didnt attack an individual. My reading of it iss that he attacked an individual (ashley cole) and a race (white people).
.......................
1. How has he attacked Ashley Cole. He neither mentioned him, or directed his tweet at him.
2. I am white, and I can not possibly see how this is racially offensive to white people.
I have been assuming you have all thought it to be offensive to black people, which I also can't get to grips with.
2. I am white, and I can not possibly see how this is racially offensive to white people

You could only find that offensive if.people thought you were white born but acted black....
So Cole is accused of acting white¿
Re the thing about 2 people of the same race.
Someone who is racist is likely to believe that there is a difference between one race and another race. It is quite possible though that someone of a particular race, might for some reason think that he is an exception to his racist beliefs, and associate himself with a different race (perhaps because he does not consider that he has the other characterstics which he believe to be in common amongst all or most other members of the race which is technically a member of).
In that situation the person would be capable of directing racist abuse to members of his own race.
This is an entirely different situation to two black guys casually calling each other the n word.
So Cole is accused of acting white¿
=================
Exactly. And the rest of the statement is expressly insulting to his behaviour. The implication therefore is that the way he is behaving (which has been insulted) is typical behaviour of the other (white) race.
Never the n word is offensive......choc ice.....well is this the new n word? shouldn't laugh but.....
fyi, suarez is part black
It has been explained to you fellaini. If you dont get it that's your own issue. It isnt the new n word, which is a word which is used to identify a person of a particular racial background, it is a word which attempts to identify character traits of a particular race. Although by one interpretation the n word is in itself derogatory, the chocice phrase is inhernetly racist.
That makes it okay now?
Evra has a better claim, unless he is like a Magnum inside
fellaini - your resorting to making your own racist comments is frankly pathetic.
It goes to show how pathetic this all is to be fair.
You have no idea who you are discussing with......race or colour.
Until choc ice is in common use as an insult/racist term I will take it for what it is.....nothing.

Youve already said that.
As has been proved above though, you are wrong.
Is it in common use? Or just for south London gangsta types.
I have never heard it in my day to day life in last.2 years....
Either i live in a bubble or the nostrils tolerant part of the UK?
Ive never heard it before either. It was obvioius to me what it meant though as soon as i saw it. I can not imagine for a moment that ferdinand either did not already know the phrase or instantly understood the connetations as well.
The statement as a whole was
"Looks like ashley cole's going to be their chocice. Then again he's always been a sell out. Shame on him"
when you think that most prem club's catchment area is "the world" and norwich's was "norfolk" it shows what an achievement it was for lambert to get his team to finish mid table. i think villa have made a very shrewd move taking him onboard and expect their perofrmances to improve substantially over the next couple of seasons.
To be honest, i wouldnt normally give 2 shiiits about what rio said, after the fuss he's made about terry etc it's a bit of a different matter, and I have no doubt that whatever he has publically said about it Ashley Cole will have been personally hurt and offended by the comment, as was no doubt part of ferdinand's motivation for making the comment.
2. I am white, and I can not possibly see how this is racially offensive to white people.
------------
To me the term choc-ice has similar connotations to the term Uncle Tom which is a racial term and is considered highly offensive.
Aren't you familiar with the phrase uncle tom, or are you intentionally burying your head in the sand? You're from the States aren't you VC, therefore I'm sure you must be familiar with this expression.
If Frimpong is charged, then I can see Ferdinand being charged. This would be consistent, which us exactly what you say you want.
Or VC like.me.lives in a nice area and.has a circle of non offensive friends.
I must live in the 1950's countryside
the term is not well known so far as i am aware, but it is self explanatory. rio will have understood it just as i underst.
Who exactly is cole supposed to be 'selling out' here ? :
"Looks like ashley cole's going to be their chocice. Then again he's always been a sell out. Shame on him"and it.
He is a friend and team mate of john terry. The only answer can therefore be that he is selling out on his race. That in itself gives a racial connetation to the comment, and suggests that people of one race should stick togethor. The comment is saying that it is 'shameful' that he does not adhere to this racial grouping. The phrase choc-ice (black on the outside, white on the inside), reinforces the racial nature of the comment and also implies that cole is acting like a white person would act - again racially discriminatory (against white people), and taken togethor with the rest of the post, racially abusive as well as abusive to the indiviaul (cole).
