Only event today is the archery
we do ok at that I think..
held at Lords it is
MrsChalky, imagine the hours that Aaron Cook must have put into become the world number 1 in Taekwondo and to win gold in the last two european championships and then to be told that he wasn't selected for the Olympics.
the opening ceremony is shrouded in secrecy, with no name(s) mentioned on who is lighting the flame
I reckon it'll be a five or six way thing with Steve Redgrave Becks, & the young royals at a star shaped ignition system
just read the night is to be completed by Paul McCartney - jeez I hate his music, especially Hey Jude
just also seen Roger Bannister is new favourite for the light...
Should be Daley
Greatest olympian ever
I think Redgrave should light it.
It will probably be David Beckham or one of those deserving Royals...
All of the above...team effort I reckon

MrsChalky, was knocking you, I agree entirely with your original comment. I just think its an absolute travesty that someone so obviously at the top of their game can be overlooked with barely a whimper while the country (or at least the media) are up in arms about the non-inclusion of Beckham

well - it is 'er manor I guess
MrsChalky,I I also heard that it was something to do with the fact that he wouldn't train with the rest of the team, he preferred to train in his shed in his garden. But that is just petty and vindictive. If it works for him, which it clearly does, then he should be free to do his own thing. I've got no time at all for all the politics. I'm surprised that the the powers that be didn't intervene more forcefully. They're desperate to win medals so not taking the world number 1 in any sport is a bit strange decision.
I'm not particularly excited about the whe whole thing yet. I usually find that I get drawn into different events by the headlines that are generated in the early stages. I'm particularly intrigued at the moment by this blind archer who has just set a new world record of 699/720. His opponents must be thankful that he's practically blind. It wouldn't be worth turning up if he could see
does anyone know what that song was on the michael phillips clip ?
btw sharon davies, looking past it now
The only good things about the Oylmpics are the 100M
sprint race, the Football and the Tennis. The rest is $hit.
The Olympics is the biggest, most over-hyped load of rubbish.
The bell will upturn to become the flame and Beckham is gonna make his way to light it but Peter Kay (in beefeater suit) will push him out of the way take the torch off him and light it then turn round and shout "you all right ? Garlic bread!!!!
swimming's good.
i like the swimming and the athletics.
i also find that other sports arose a temporary interest which only the olympics can engender.
the director decided not to show the red arrows from the staium view then
