Why is the Carroll transfer suspect? Have I missed something these last few days? I've been out of the country but I'm at a loss.
Liverpool rejected the deal so Carroll isn't going back to Newcastle.
Seriously what a waste of 35m quid, you buy a player for that amount and 18 months later you want rid of. FSG must be shittting money out every day.
I just can't understand the price that either team paid for the players. The more I think about it the more it perplexes me.
It was just a crazy day. Torres had just gone for £50 million and Liverpool were desperate for a replacement. Remember that at the time Carroll was one of the brightest striking prospects in the country.
No, he wasn't worth £35 million (more like £20 million tops) but I still think he has potential and if he can get a fresh start elsewhere he'll do well.
Bebe has a better goals to game ratio as well
The thing is, at the time Carroll had 14 top flight goals to his name. I just don't see how that equates to 35m. I know we paid a lot for Rooney - not sure how many PL he had then - but you could see he was special. Carroll looked decent, but nothing more than that. He had one good performance in the England shirt on his debut, and suddenly he is worth 35m?
Do you think with us being the best team in the league in using wingers very well, that Carroll would enjoy being at United? To be fair, I wouldn't mind having him as a 4th choice squad player.
Fool me once, hmm, fair enough, fool me twice, shame on me.
Newcastle you fool
You're not going to get anyOne disagreeing with you Elvis.

He would probably do well at United. If you think how many headers Rooney scored when playing as the main striker, Carroll would have a field day. I do think he is a decent player. But every time I think 35m my brain just can't compute it and I have to think of something else before I have a stroke.
Carroll has never had a productive full season in the top flight, it was a huge gamble Liverpool took on a championship player but Downing has worked out well so swings and roundabouts
For me, I can't understand where Liverpool get all this money from. I know the Torres transfer helped, but not being in the Champions League must hinder their finances, as we're always told how dependent teams are on the Champions League income.

......
Liverpool did not once say that they will pay 35 million for Carroll.
Liverpool said to Chelsea "go and sign Carroll and give us 15 million on top if that in cash"
John Henry himself said this
How much did you lot pay for Anderson?
Dark Phoenix......, most people wonder where Man U get their money from given the priority your leprechaun owners have for their shopping malls.

We paid 16 million for Milner an he's twice as good as Anderson!
Either way you look at it both are awful transfers.
bebe as he is on one of the worst players to play football ever.
Carrol because he cost about 32.5 million more than he is worth.
As far as the OP goes the Bebe transfer is by far the most 'suspect'.
