Didn't realise the squad is being announced today. I honestly don't care about the result I just want to see the likes of Pilkington, Houlihan etc given a chance to impress. I know Trapp has a system blah blah but come on give the lads a chance to show we can actually play a bit of football!

Hope thats true..... the lads are legends but its time to blood the next generation. Until the WC qualifications start we should try something different. I think we should build the team around the likes of McCarthy who is going to be a top class player.
No, but I hope I'm wrong.
Paul McShane announced as new captain!
Ha ha your having a laugh!!!!
Republic of Ireland squad v Serbia:
Westwood, Forde, Randolph; Wilson, O'Shea, St Ledger, O'Dea, Ward, Kelly, McShane; Whelan, Gibson, McCarthy, Green, Coleman, McGeady, Keogh, McClean, Treacy; Doyle, Long, Cox, Walters.
...................................................................
On the positive Trappa has completely dispensed with all the old guard players, some of whom were seriously dragging us down at the Euros.
Unfortunately however he's still somehow found a place for squad players like McShane, Green and Keogh when Clark, Duffy, Hoolahan or Pilkington surely would have been more useful options... especially for a friendly!
Also, I want some serious change in the backline, i.e. St ledger and Ward don't deserve to be starting games anymore after the euros debacle. Hopefully Wilson and Coleman will slot in there.
He has only dispensed with the seniors because he didnt want them to have to make the long journey to Serbia.
But why bring players like Traecy and Keogh back in when the Norwich duo are playing in a top league every week? Traecy coudnt even keep his place at Burnley and Keogh has found his level with Millwall! And poor old O'Dea cant even get a club!
I can almost guarentee that he will start with:
Westwood, O'Shea, St. Ledger, O'Dea, Ward, McGeady, Whelan, Green, McClean, Doyle, Cox.
He might start with Gibson over Green and say he needs Gibson's height to counteract the Serbs....or something like that.
He will bring on McCarthy, Long, and Walters with 10/20 mins to go and slightly change the system. The game will end 0-0 and Trap he will say he learned a great deal, when actually nothing has been learned.
But thats what got us to Polkraine!! And if it gets us to Brazil, I wont be complaining!!
Fair dooz Dublondain, i never saw that last sentence coming.
Totally agree re the Norwich lads.
I see the Hoops will have Anderlecht next, if, they squeeze by in this round.
Don't think I can take another battering like we took at the Euros! Whether or not two of the teams in out group got to the final we looked like a Sunday league team. It was embarrassing to have the whole of Europe laughing at us but to have the world laughing at us would hurt more.
To be fair the standard at the world cup, at the group stages anyway, is very mediocre and if we luckily managed to get to Brazil I think even this bunch of players would be hard-pressed to repeat the epic failure of the euros! A lot of very average teams from the rest of the world dilute the standard so we'd be ok.
