The Britannia's miles from the Apollo.

As neither Rangers or Celtic are playing in Manchester that weekend I should imagine you'll have a funfest.

to be fair its about a mile away.

I wouldn't like to walk it if I had a stone in my shoe.

Pop in any of the clubs and bars down Canal Street. Its on your way back from the Apollo, round the back of your Hotel. Homophobic Gangster Rappers don't usually frequent them so you should be ok.

Nah i'll give Canal street a miss cheers

Is placemate 7 still going or rotters?
Showing my age eh?

The Ritz has been shut down for refurb Inky, not sure if it is open again yet or not, but if it is that is one option OP.

I'm not really into r&b and all that to be honest, so I'm not too clued up on it, but maybe try the Printworks, Pure, Tiger, something like that.

Not a big fan of 42s, prefer Venue.

Sankeys or Joshua Brookes for me.

posted on 13/7/11

yea been to sankeys a good few times after work in the 90's!
never been to the venue so i'll believe you on that one! not been to town for a night out for a good few years now!

posted on 13/7/11

It's basically the same place, but they play more northern soul and music like that in Venue. 42s has become one of the places to go when you're underage now, not been there since I started going to town - if you like borderline-legal girls though, 42s will do the job!

What about Pips or Rafters?
+++++

must have joined Pips about 20 times over the years. And Placemate7.

wasnt Rafters (bit swanky) opposite the Long Bar on Oxford Road...or was that Rafters. Soon packed all that Town caper in and went to Fridays in Northenden. Was in staggering distance from me Mam's house.

Pips rocked, never really went to rafters as it was a bit of a 'chain' venue with dreadful music and even worse women.

posted on 13/7/11

not been to 42nd since the mid 90s and surprised its still going!

The Ranch - Now there was a real club.

Manchester these days is generally known for Indie/House music for a night out (or I that just where I always end up?). Honestly, I could not tell you any clubs/bars that play RnB. Like gratedbean said above you're probably best off heading for the more commercial Printworks for that kind of music. Think Sankey's would be a bit too much for an out of town RnB listener

Preferred jillys and swinging sporran in my twenties

posted on 13/7/11

Good shout, the Sporran knocked out a decent tune.

the Sporran..........happy days..i was in there the day John Lennon was murdered and i told the DJ to stop playing Bowie's song New Yorks a go go...
elvis behind the bar..........and Costas did a runner with the takings...

the Pheonix.........rock on........big steve and southern boogie.

and Jillys 1 .near piccadilly...
.the one that burnt down because the owners and bouncers upset the wrong people...
thats the place where i still carry a scar on my forehead when i burnt the tache of a bouncer when he asked me for a light............he was not amused.

but revenge is best served cold..or flaming hot as they say.....but it was nowt to do with me.........
