Ferguson is reknowned for having players pick up mysterious injuries/bugs before meaningless friendlies

Metro

The Olympics aren't meaningless and Gerrard has been doing it for years.

Also notice the first two comments that aren't me are from a Liverpool and an Arsenal fan. THIS IS ON THE UNITED BOARD!

So annoying that Bale has done this, he is one of the few interesting players in the GB setup

Silly comment, without any basis in fact.

That's not even a point worth mentioning.

As for bale, Olympics are very meaningless, good on spurs.

I saw your article on the most recent thing. I knew it would be about Bale, so wanted to read another team's supporter's take on the matter.

I noticed you'd made a mistake in the post, so told you so so that you wouldn't be inundated with, "why would SAF be vindicated..?" type comments, taking the OP away from the point you had raised.

If it hadn't been for that I would probably not have posted anything.

And there was I thinking I was being a good Samaritan.

Pffft...

Ok sorry

It's just there are a lot of fans from other teams being very tedious lately

Just as silly as Metro's comment.

That's okay squire, I understand.

Regards your OP, I agree it would have caused a bigger stink if a United player had ducked out, than it seems to have done with Bale.

Maybe it's the fact that he's Welsh rather than English though?

That might be it, he is a top class player and would have improved England's chances of getting a medal. I also thought winning an Olympic medal would be important to him.

I have to say I'm surprised too. I thought he would viwe this as his best chance to shine on the international stage... what with him being from Wales.

"Gareth is extremely young and physically a beast, so he was able to put on the effort, and we extended [his time] because we want him to complete a certain amount of minutes before we start the season."

Physically a beast, eh? So, it is true.

Exactly, like Giggs has done

Can't blame Spurs for wanting their player fit for the new season, if he was to go to the olympics they'd have no control over how much game time he'd have to play. It is pretty meaningless, just because Britain entered a team for once doesn't make it a credible tournament.

Then why not let him play in the Olympics?

Tell that to the Athletes who train all their lives just to get a chance to compete in them.

That's a truly ridiculous post

From a football perspective it is. Very much so.

Otherwise they would allocate full teams etc. team gb has never been a football team etc.

Not so, teh fact we are useless at it doesn't mean other people do not take it seriously. The South Americans and Africans do, no wonder they develop more technically gifted players

posted on 25/7/12

You think because they take the olympics seriously they develop better players? Why would the 2 go hand in hand at all?

posted on 25/7/12

Simply because the olympic team is made up of players under 23 and 3 overaged players. So after the U21s, they keep them together so there's a seamless transition to the national side. They also include rigorous development campaigns to ensure the people stay together , develop together and become a team together

It's no coincidence the winners of the gold medal since it began are either SOuth American or African
