I wonder how the Villa fans will feel, losing Young AND (probably) Downing in one summer?

Is it £20m?

Not good for them i suppose, depends if Alex McCleish will see all of the money they have gained from the sales and want kind of replacements they can get? Also heard that LFC are close to agreeing a fee for N'Zogbia tonight, not sure how true that is though tbh.

Excellent deal for Villa. Never keep a player who wants to go. Downing has shown himself to be a football mercenary. He ought to remember who took a risk on him and paid his wages for 7 months when he was injured.

Good riddance !!!

Cheers, The PowerRules. I saw the Beeb and LFC hadn't named a price. Great to have the £20m if we can find good players to spend it (and the Young money) on.

McLeish needs to get a move on. We do have Albrighton who can play on the right wing but we need creative central midfielders or we could be in big trouble.

We lost Milner and suffered through not replacing him. Now Young and Downing are gone...

No prob Underwhelmed

I think N'Zogbia would be a good signing for u, even though i have heard tonight LFC are in for also i would be surprised, think he would be a good buy for Villa!

You got Ireland back so maybe he may come good?

Going to be interesting to see who u sign, and we will see how ambitious Lerner is by how much he allows AM to spend

2235: FOOTBALL - Liverpool announce they have agreed a fee with Aston Villa for the transfer of Stewart Downing, who will now discuss personal terms and undergo a medical. The fee is reported to be around £20m.

Stephen who?

Liverpool do know they can't field 10 midfielders, don't they? It seems like your boys are making good signings and we're just chilling by the pool.

Our ambition is questionable right now. We signed Bent to help get us out of the relegation mire but now we seem to have taken backward steps.

I can't help wonder if McLeish is in as the fall guy or, seeing as how we have just forked out a fortune on paying off O'Neill, Houllier and now the Blouse for McLeish, perhaps Lerner is expecting to invest £50m in the market (Young's £17m + Downing's £20m + an expected transfer kitty for a new manager).

Anxious times as Villa are renowned for not being very aggressive in the market.

One half-decent season for a player we paid much less for than the 20 odd mill we are getting. Bargain of the century! No great loss, Albrighton is a much better (and younger) prospect and he wants to be here! Good riddance Downing, thanks for the 20 mil, break a leg!
