Would you ever be a “turncoat”?

A club is for life. Tottenham are not the nearest club to where I live (although they are to where I work).

Where you live later in life should have nothing to do with it. There's nothing wrong with showing some support for a lower league 'local club', but your main club is your main club. Simple.

Supporting big football teams is usually done in your formative years. The one closest to where you grow up is therefore the one you tend to have strongest affinity with.

Family "tradition" also plays a part (subliminal indoctrination) .

Phils,

Thats why i added in the bit about my roots being irrelevant. Its more to do with sticking by your lifelong club loyalty more than anything. Or so i thought.

If they did say that then it’s the most ridiculous statement I’ve ever heard

Chicken, maybe you should listen to their advice though, and switch allegiances to the 'biggest' club on that list?

How close to Dagenham and Redbridge's ground are you exactly?

Born in Pompey & lived there most of childhood & teens
watched Pompey from aged 11 - 15 in the lower divisions, was always a Chelsea fan though from age 8
but had no way of getting there
was 18 when I first went to the Bridge...somehow Fratton Park was never the same...& I knew it would be thus

& Pompey might be gone in weeks - which is sad

I'd never support another team with my heart if that makes sense.

I watched 18 Forest games a couple of seasons ago, which is more than I went to Anfield, and I have become quite fond of them.

I wear my LFC top underneath though.

Mafia is wrong anyway.

That's nothing for them really.....you should try reading their comments for 5 minutes, real eye opener

Hi Chicken,

I could never change my allegiance to Spurs, I'm not someone who had links to the club or Area. My support started at Italia 90 when seeing Lineker and Gascoigne I asked my Dad who they played for. I then became a Spurs fan.

I grew up 30 miles from Wolves, 50 miles from Villa, but as a 7 year old I chose Spurs. Most of my mates growing up were Liverpool or Man Utd fans, not many who supported local(ish) teams.

I had 3 Spurs friends, by 1996 they were all Man Utd fans. For me there was never a choice to change, that was pure Glory Hunting

I would never call myself a 'plastic' fan, an 'armchair' fan yes.

For me there are probably 4 or 5 categories for Fans

Glory Hunting - Willing to change allegiance to whomever is performing well.

Plastic - Supports 1 club but doesn't mention, talk about them, then when doing well appears out of the woodwork to brag about their team

Armchair - Commited fans, passionate about their club and players, would never contemplate switching. But doesn't attend games etc.

Real - Doesn't need to be affiliated to the club or area, but is a passionate fan who will try their hardest to get to as many games as possible

Die-hard - Live, Eat, Sleep the club. Going out of their way to follow their team.

These are only my 'labels' if anyone has anymore or tweaks I think we could have a definitive list of where people fall.

Me I'm an Armchair - I could probably make a few more games but the traveling costs mean it's not my top priority, but very rarely miss a game through Stream/TV.

I don't get the logic there...I lived in Guildford for four years before moving to London, I'll be b uggered if I'm supporting Guildford town under elevens, just because I happen to be a football fan in a certain area...then again these are the same guys that accused us of being obsessed with west ham, only to spew out two articles a day about spurs...

Im from Hornchurch! Yay! Support who you wish, it's only a game.

I live no where near London (I live near Cheltenham ) but seeing as my family all came from North London and been Spurs fans, I've always been one as well

I class myself as a REAL fan.

If I was a hardcore, I would be going to the likes of Wigan and Sunderland away.

I also have a home in Hornchurch. Spurs links just come from my dad who grew up in Tottenham. I was born in Tower Hamlets and my first game was Millwall v Reading. I now spend most of my time in Ireland and North Wales so it's hard to get to games.

Tottenham isn't my local team and infact i don't and never have lived near Tottenham, they are a team that a friend supported when I was a wee lad (and when I was first interested in football) he told me a lot about them and I've loved them ever since. I wish I could say that I was brought up from near there but I can't change that. My local professional team is Exeter City and even more local to me is an ameature team Tiverton Town. But I wanted to support a prem team all those years ago and have never looked back. Would I ever change my team if I moved or anything, big fat no to that

posted on 27/7/12

Avb easy as 123, that's similar to me, so many of my mates supported, man utd, Liverpool etc as back then they were the "in" team to support, but I didn't want to support a team like that and I liked the look of Tottenham, if that makes sense.

I chose Tottenham watching Match of the day as a kid and like Ferdinand and Iversen, never changed since.

Turns out the majority of my family support Spurs, they're in my blood

VanDerBale - Yes everyone around my way was Liverpool or United 50% split, Then if you look at the kids 5 years younger than me it would of been 70% United, 25% Liverpool, 5% Arsenal.

The more successful your team is the more young fans you will pick up, I would say most youngsters round here now are United or Chelsea, with a few Arsenal sprinkled in, but with Wolves actually having been in the Prem there does seem to be more youngsters going down the local team route.

AVB,

My support started at Italia 90 when seeing Lineker and Gascoigne I asked my Dad who they played for. I then became a Spurs fan.

====================

Having Gazza & Lineker play for england was a very proud moment. And this was in a time where there was far more patriotism about in regard to the international scene, where the majority of fans really wanted their club players to feature, and were proud when they did well (like Gazza & Lineker did very much so).

Hornchurch,

Do you drink in any pubs in Hornchurch? I'm normally in either Firkin, Hogs or Cricketers (now OJ's) for decent live Sky matches.

S. Mouse,

What part of Hornchurch is your home in? Is it town centre or saaaaaaaaaaf Hornchurch?

Yeah know what you mean, at least by me choosing spurs all those years ago I couldn't be called a glory hunter and even now I'm still waiting for the glory
