I'm wondering if that means we have a striker on the way in now.

Why was paynter a striker

Reading Fan in peace.

You need a new attack force if you ask me because bothimes when you played us you were poor at finishing. But then again, that doesn't mean you were poor up front for all of the season does it?

I think what Leeds need to do is concentrate on a new winger, a new ST and 2 solid CB's. I don't want to bring it up againbut Forest 7-3 at home?

But imo as a Reading Fan here are better out there than Paynter so raise the funds and let him leave. I mean you don't need him really do you?

You have a bit of cash from he takeover and the money for Paynter. That for a new ST is ok.

Totally agree with you LRF : need 2 CBs, a striker, 1-2 wingers...and of course a RB

takeover?
what bloody takeover?

We will get SFA for Paynter, but put that with the snoddy ££££ and we might get a decent proven championship players in. Think we should hold on to McCormack.

Regarding the investment / takeover. If it happens it happens but for now i am taking it that we will start the season with Bates in charge.

bates will always be in charge because I think the takeover includes him with a off shore company/bank account

Agree Jonty. But if Connolly stayed as back up I wouldn't mind

I would have said me neither until the end of last season, when he looked very shaky.

Jonty

The whole squad looked shaky at the end of the season.

But it is nice to have a clearout. Grayson brought in some very average players. It shows by the fact it was only a few years ago he bought Jason Crowe who is now in the Blue Square Bet North.

It doesn't feel that much different to Grayson transfers at the moment to be honest, I hope we're not in same situation next summer with some deadwood still with 2/3 years left on contract.

However, am keen to see the rest of the transfer jigsaw and some proper games under their belt to see how well the transfer policy worked.

I think some of these players are capable though. Whereas some of Graysons, well his consistency in transfers was as bad as Johnsons in games.

Compare pre-season after promotion to now

Kasper - big name keeper
Conolly - experienced defender
Bessone - experienced defender
Mccormack - potentially exciting striker
Paynter - experienced striker
Sanchez Watt - potentially exciting young player

To now

Kenny - big name keeper
Drury - experienced defender
Green - experienced midfielder
Norris - experienced midfielder
Varney - experienced winger
Austin - potentially exciting midfielder
Pearce - potentially good young player

I'm sure I've missed some names, but feels similar to when we made the signings that season and at the time we reckoned our aim was consolidation.

Thing is Jonty, Paynter, Bessone, Watt and Connolly did not perform whereas we have yet to find out just how the new guys will perform.

My guess is they will be far better than those 4, Kelly will be better than Kasper and in Austin we look to have bought a 'Nunez' who can actually play a bit and will not get knocked off the ball every time he gets challenged.

Time will tell

----------------

He's a CB/DM whereas Nunez is a Fwd/AM

How are they alike?

Stoopo, I'm saying compare now with the same time that preseason, they don't look that different and that was supposed to be a preseason of transfer activity designed to consolidate.

It looks the same, have to hope the outcome is different.

I've seen some Austin footage and most of it appears to be of him making good tackles and scoring goals. I think he's got 17 in the last 46 games which suggests he might be a better bet than Nunez going forward.

He's also classed as a CM/DM not a CB!

As he can tackle as well I think we might have a good player on our hands.

Jonty,

As I said - time will tell - but I think they are better players than the ones from that season.

---------------------------------------

There are two types of defensive midfielders. Those that sit deeper than the midfielder line and those that are on the normal line but tend to stay where they are whilst the rest attack and hang back and defend.

Austin can play that role in a normal midfield, not deeper, although he could, but usually he'll play in a normal midfield just playing a defensive role, or he'll play CB.

"Anyone think we should keep in him?"

No. We should pay them to take him to make sure it goes through.

Well DM or CM he scores more than Nunez and can tackle.
