The problem with the 442 formation is the need for discipline and some of our players lack this element especially Song (crucial position) and our full backs. Plus, the player playing behind the striker would need to lay deeper and be creative like Bergkamp, which only RVP could do right now.

I don't know guys, the days of playing the Bergkamp role is pretty much gone. Strikers want the ball played to them a lot faster from a midfielder instead of having the ball go through a second striker first. The second striker in the hole was replaced with an attacking midfielder.

4-4-2 wouldn't work over a season.

The lesser teams would find it easier to defend deep and disrupt the midfield.

The better teams would dominate the ball in midfield with 3 against 2.

I can see a system with 3 at the back being the thing to end the 3 man CM dominance.

BBBP, that would get so over-run in CM that Arteta would come in field and Walcott would go out right....
