Carroll, 'news' reports...

I can safely say that Andy Carroll will either be staying at Anfield or going somewhere else.

and looking at your user name you have much to lose should he leave.

The Brylcream of Elisha Scott maybe?

Sky reported last night that West Ham denied the approach.

If the loan bid was successful we'd have heard about it officially by now - as that's usually the point that we find out about transfer activity, when an agreement between clubs has been reached.

Fred read that report, but still other media outlets are reporting it as ongoing.

Stupid, all we can know is that at the moment we can't know.

Even BBC confirmed it's a done deal. So, i trust Beeb.

Considering how poor the BBC have been recently with their sudden decline in publications, I've started to take their articles with a pinch of salt too.

Mafia

I will wait for it to be on at least one of the two clubs official sites.

posted on 31/7/12

It's a big embarrassment for BBC if it fails. May be, both clubs are working on his wages.

Its a weird one isn't it? It seems the clubs have a agreed the deal, but the player is holding out (or waiting for a better offer).

I think the deal is a good one for West Ham. Although, the major downside would be if he's a massive flop, West Ham hardly use him, but they stay up without any of his input, and then have to pay an extra £15m at the end of the season.

I don't think he wants to go to West Ham, he like the rest of the toon fell out with Big Sam.

Allardyce would probably see signing Carroll as a bit of a coup and effectively showing two fingers at Newcastle fans.

However, I don't want Carroll to leave, he will be a brilliant player for us and I also believe that Carroll will fight for his place.

Option to buy - not necessarily to buy.

posted on 31/7/12

Maf,

I dont think it is an option to buy. I got the impression Liverpool have insisted on the trigger payment. Otherwise Liverpool dont really gain anything by the loan.

posted on 31/7/12

No. They gain a lot.

1. Wage bill

2. 2 million in loan cash.

3. No one is ready to buy him for 17 million in cash.

posted on 31/7/12

Maf,

I think the reason they will insist on the £15m trigger payment is because his value could drop dramatically over the next season, so West Ham pay just £2m, another year on his contract has gone (meaning his value drops some more), and they may be left even more redfaced than they feel right now.

Remember, Newcatle have offered £15m (i believe), so i doubt they would risk letting him leave for a year, just on the possibility they can get an extra £2m off West Ham (in total), if they fancy buying him. Its too much of a risk.

As such, i'm pretty sure the £15m price tag will be set in stone, a little bit like the Robbie Keane one 2 years ago. It makes no sense for Liverpool to simply loan out a player with no trigger clause set in, when they have already stated he is not in BR's plans at all.

posted on 31/7/12

I thought all the reports said 2 mil loan with an option to buy for an addtional 17 at seasons end.

then everyone denied any deal at all.

posted on 31/7/12

redconn,

All reports ive read claim that West Ham will have to pay £15m if they stay up.

Otherwise, i just cant see the point of the deal. I imagine alot of clubs would offer him a loan deal on the basis they can just hand him back the following year if it doesn't work.

Who knows?

Personally, i just think Newcastle are playing hardball over a fee, and Liverpool are threatening to loan him out unless they up the bid. My guess is, they'll meet in the middle - they often do.

posted on 31/7/12

>>i just cant see the point of the deal.

me neither. that's why I think it's just a rubbish rumour or a bid from West Ham that was dismissed out of hand.

posted on 31/7/12

I hope West Ham don't get Carroll on loan. I don't see the point of loan players, unless there is a water-tight option to buy at the end.
I'd love to see him join us permanently, but that will never happen.

posted on 31/7/12

myhammers,

The thing is with loan deals is, if you have a clause set in stone, then you get lumbered if they turn out to be shat.

But if there is no price contracted in for the loanee club, then if he proves himnseld he is likley to sod off to someone else.

These players want to be given a chance, but when they do & succeed, they want to step up to a higher level.

Chicken always ask/talk about West Ham's progress/plans, but never talk about his own team ambitions/failings here.

Maf,

I just stick to the article topic - thats what the jist of the site is for.

The fact you haven't grasped this would explain why you compare any debate on here with Spurs.

If we all stick to the article topic, there wont be too much need to get into historic, same old, debates.

Watch & learn...

posted on 31/7/12

You stay on topic - that's a beggars belief..

Shall we start with "where do you think Spurs' will finish" topic, for a change?

posted on 31/7/12

Maf,

If you want to post about that, why not create an article about it?

You're really not getting this "staying on topic" thing are you? Yet again, you have to mention Spurs.

Brilliant.

posted on 31/7/12

No need to make an article. Why can 't we start on this article. I'll ask T K o T to change the topic when he come around. Let's go....

posted on 31/7/12

Why would you (or T K o T for that matter) want to change the article to a Spurs related one?

That would be an extremely odd move, not to mention a tad misleading to anyone who wanted to join in.

Maybe you should just accept that not all articles need to make reference to Spurs - that'll be far more easier than everyone changing their article titles to suit your posts.
