This is a warmup for the World Cup for them almost. They don't have competitive football since they qualify automatically so its important for them.
Always ready Tim Vickery's blog and he's mentioned how performances for the U21s etc can be more important than club form in getting a shot in the full national side.
These are the only competitive matches they have before the World Cup, that's the main reason...
Well put it this way the u23 and the actual national side are pretty much the same
