What people don't understand is that God does not have control over everybody. Now I'm going to explain this so badly as I don't pretend to fully understand it but God will never come to you. You have to go to him.

This is my favourite book...http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Collapse-Chaos-Discovering-Simplicity/dp/0140291253
I stupidly loaned it out to someone who was publishing a global view of the financial crisis and I didn't get the book back. Defo worth a read.

This is the christian's answer to everything.
saltillo forced vision, a song that covers this subject, its beautiful
Religion is created to create order in early societys, as I can imagine that a lot of people were running riot and doing as they wished!
But if the higher authorities suggest that you will pay for your crimes and get rewarded for acts of kindness, then a high percentage of people would become civilized!
Exactly, control by fear, which was then used as a massive cash generator when they realised they could do it.
Organised religion is the worst thing that ever happened on this planet.
This is the christian's answer to everything.

something which is interesting is how many different (isolated) cultures have (presumably independently) come to the conclusion that there is a god (even if it isnt the same god).
why would this be ? are we programmed to think that there is a god ? did we all go through the same logical thought process and arrive at the same answer ? were we all visited in the night by a big god messenger (trying to go flight of the conchords there) ?
Brightdave, I only mentioned Stephen Jay Gould to highlight the fact that people could be in total agreement on a central thesis (evolution in the caseof RD and SJG) but totally disagree on the fine detail. Failure to agree on the fine detail doesn't necessarily invalidate the basic premise.
MUDD, regarding evolution between species, evolutionary biology isn't really my bag so I didn't really pay too much attention but wasn't there a case fairly recently where a species was found which seemed to suggest a bridge between 2 species?
OK, would God allow me to have faith in the knowledge of science?

Which again is why it's called faith.

Read this book to your people and I will feed them too, saving the prime cuts for you of course.
Deny this book and I will kill you.
Deny this book to your people and I will kill all of them too.
