need to get some going out i think now before anymore come in??
Am I the only one that doesnt see Tyson playing up front?
I see him him playing similiar role to what he did at forest
Agree that Moxey, Hulse and Commons would still walk straight back in to this side. I also think we have more than enough workman like midfielders and a bit of flair needed in the midfield, a position we should break the bank for IMO
Bush,
NC has said that he's going to play Tyson upfront as an out and out striker. Not wide, not behind anyone, up front. With Ward as his partner, I'd suggest.
We have invested plenty, this article is tosh.
Add up all the transfer fees and you might surprise yourself.
Maguire - £400k
Bryson - £300k
Shackell - £1m
Ward, Robinson etc.
1 free transfer - Tyson. I see him playing wide left cutting in, Ward on the opposite flank.
I did add up all the fees and thats why im not convinced yet! You my friend need to consider what has left the club in the past year, as you said 'you will be suprised'
We have never replaced Hulse that is a fact. Moxey isn't a world beater and should have been easily replaced by now.
But I think as it has already been said that its down to offloading a couple more before we see more come in.
CR20
The club was virtually on its knees as regard playing staff and without substantial investment this summer we would have been certs to go down
The investment so far will push us up the league but we are way off challenging for the play offs just yet
dan, do you honestly think the board have invested enough? i agree with clarke's artical completely, varney has left for 750k, plus the money from season tickets, the money freed up for the wages of sav, commons, hulse, varney etc im not so sure they have invested as much as people think.
Dont get me wrong im happy with the players they have bought it and how fast they went about doing but we are still missing 2 key big players, a striker and a DMF, maybe 3 if you add a creative midfielder.
GK Fielding
RB Brayford
CB Barker
CB Shackell
LB Roberts
RM Ward
CM Bryson
CM Bailey
LM Cywka
CF Maguire
CF Tyson
BENCH
GK Ledgzins
CB Anderson
CB Buxton
RM B. Davies
CM Green
CF S. Davies
CF Robinson
Hopefully add another full back to that to push Roberts down to sub. Another centre mid (Moussi?) to provide competition and so we have some cover while Greeny's out, and a quality striker to keep Theo out of the squad (Waghorn?) and we'll be laughing!
Is Danny Pugh at Stoke City a player we could try to bring in? Even if it was just on loan, he can play very comfortably at left-back, could carry out the defensive duties in midfield if required and wouldn't need to travel any further really for training, presuming he lives this side of Stoke, so may appear an attractive proposition.
Remembering he spent time on loan with us last season, but forgetting he was at Stoke and not still Sheffield United is Michael Tongue. Could having him on loan again be a problem if Pugh was to come in?
I'm not sure if I am surprised.
Hulse lets be generous and say £700k, Commons £300k that's the £1m for Shackell.
£400k for Moxey, is for Maguire.
Then there's the fees for Ward, Robinson, Bryson etc which outweigh the Varney fee.
For the first time in years, we have a squad that is ours, not full of loans.
Was it 2 seasons ago we had so many strikers on loan, Dickov, DJ Campbell etc.
Good shout on Danny Pugh - he would be perfect, not sure how much he would cost and not sure how much we could pay him. A CM 3 of Bryson Pugh and Bailey excites me though. Tyson wide left, Ward wide right with Maguire up top. Don't expect many will agree though.
Pirate - pretty much the team I'd pick as it stands, although I'd prefer a 4-3-2-1 with a defensive midfielder in there.
I am a big fan of Cywka though. I hope Clough doesn't give up on him because whenever he is on the ball he is exciting.
And to be clear, no I don't think the board have invested ANYTHING but I think football is changing.
You can spend £10m in this league and by no guarantee will you get top 6. Cardiff will be weak for 2-3 years in my opinion, because they spent so much last year.
Doughty continues to pour money into forest but for how long?
Clubs are becoming self sustaining and with our fanbase and stadium that suits us just fine, likewise leeds utd.
We could always bring back Przemysław Kaźmierczak, Ruben Zadkovich, Benny Feilhaber and Paul Thirlwell to help bolster our midfield.
Thoughts?
In this league, I'd be happy to take Zadkovich or Feilhaber back. They are both internationals after all.
me personally, id love to see us sign an out and out wide player, either left or right..... somebody in the mold of Jobi Mcanuff.
Obviously not him, but that type of player. When was the last time we had a winger who whenever he got the ball raised us off our feet and we were all shouting 'guuuu on son do him, take him on'

Ignoring the fact that 4 of those are injured, some long term, another 2 are made of glass, and 2 have already been discarded by Clough, I'll ask you one question, who out of that side is going to score the goals?
To even finish half way next season we have to have a +ve goal difference, last season we conceded 71 goals, so unless our defence suddenly turns into the Arsenal of the late 80's then we need to score 60 - 70 goals.
The only player I can see reaching double figures is Ward, and even then he probably won't hit 15.
Do the maths yourself, but I think we are in big trouble unless we sign someone with a scoring record.
Without looking in to it, I would bet there isn't a player in our squad who has scored more than 15 goals IN THE LAST 3 YEARS at any level (maybe Greeney but he's out for half the season).
Doesn't look good to me.
Which is exactly why I said we should still bring in "a quality striker" in my post, Baaaed
looking at it like that baaaed, you're probs right!
who would you be thinking of???
TBH I think we've missed the boat with most of the decent strikers now, we've dillied and dallied (dallied and dillied) over them and then gone for the cheaper option, the gamble, again.
I looked into it a bit more last night and it's worse than I thought, you look at the scoring record of our whole squad over the last 3 seasons and the average is 44 goals a season.
Last season they scored 40 goals between them.
We conceded 71 goals last year, so to finish mid table our defence has to improve significantly, and a couple of our strikers have to hit 15 goals apeice. THAT'S TO FINISH MID-TABLE.
I'm not even going into the injury problems or the lack of cover in midfield and defence, I can't see anything but a season of str4uggle ahead.
