win this game on the return leg . . . .
It's your first game, they play summer football. it's nothing to worry about. 1-0 is a good result.
To be fair, Gomel were pretty stubborn - they chased everything and to be honest, feckin annoyed me
Cheers ACP
Dynamo time. We should sign him up
They were fitter. That was the crux of the matter.
Totally agree Stevie. You can't expect to go there on your first competitive game and pump them. You got a good result. Some comments on here are madness.
Exactly. It is about winning that game, take it easy and the whoop em at home. Rafa played the same way. Never bothered anyone then. I can see Rodgers getting stick quite easily. Seems to be an impatient section of the support. It will not happen over night and it I like the passing style. He just needs some time and the rest of who he wants in the team. Roll on the end of August.
The usual over reactions on here!
Writing a player like Gerrard off after one game under Rodgers
We have had all sorts of travelling and will be a million times better next week after a more relaxed week at Melwood, and then another million times better by the time of the first game at West Brom.
We did what we needed to, win and make the 2nd leg a virtual formality.
Stop moaning FFS
Honestly 1-0 for your first game away in Europe is a good result. These European teams even though seen as small would beat most of the bottom on the EPL.
Yes they would the bottom half in England is rubbish. It's why English clubs struggle (except Liverpool) in Europe in the UEFA. Fast non technical football doesn't work. Did you lot not learn last season in the UEFA? I like the EPL, but technically it's so overrated.
*I should calrify my comments with lower placed teams in the EPL.
Castle Grayskull has a point to be fair.
The Premier League's record in the last decade in the EL is terrible compared to our record in the CL.
2 finalists in the EL in the last 11 years (both lost) compared to 8 finalists and 3 wins in the CL.
Part of that is because the EL is not taken as seriously, but its not the only reason.
A lot of our teams are just not very good on a European scale.
Hi, missed the first 5 minutes of the second half and can't be bothered to trawl all the comments, was Johnson injured? Or was it just giving players time?

Not to mention the fact that English clubs have did so well in the Champions League and thus haven't joined the Europa League, in the last ten years.
Seemed to me he wanted to keep Johnson fit as up until then, he was our biggest attacking threat.

How does that explain how your 5th and 6th place teams and cup winners did in the Europa?
It doesn't, and if I could be bothered to look it up, I am pretty sure most of the EL finalists in the last decade have not been CL drop-outs, so its barely even relevant anyway.

It doesn't it explains how other clubs, from other countries, who have won their league, finished second etc get knocked out of the Champions League and go on to win the Europa.
Yeah, but your lower placed teams get hammered in early ties. So it has nothing to do with that.

Yeah by teams who have dropped out of the Champions League, usually. However if there were teams consistently getting knocked out in the group stages of the Champions League, in England, you'd see English clubs doing a lot better in the Europa.
Fulham got to the final a few years ago, Liverpool the semi's the year after(?). Liverpool won it in 2001 and since then the English clubs have been fantastic in the Champions League and as such, they haven't played much in the Europa, when at their recent strongest.
