it was nowhere near that

It was exactly that, do your research before claiming otherwise.

Devonshire, its a but hypocritical of a Spurs fan to talk about wasted money on transfers when Spurs have spent over £300m in the last 10 years and have nothing to show for it (a couple of top 4 finishes doesn't really justify the expenditure btw).

Where do you get the £105m from? I can only find his net at £78m

He left over two years ago.

Get over it.

He did spend a fair whack compared to David Moyes to be honest

hence why we won trophies and Moyes didn't

That confirms it. A net spend of £78.3m over 6 years

That is NOTHING!!! when you look at the players he bought in compared to the ones we started with!!

First 3 seasons Champions league Fa cup and Champions league final.

Last two season a net spend of £-1.89m - the guys a genius.

>>After all what do our British pundits and commentators actually know about football.

very little

it took them close to 2 years to admit there were other formations besides 4-4-2 and 4-5-1 after Jose and Rafa burst on the scene.

Just because all sides played 4-4-2 in their day and wingers were only for crossing and strikers had to be in partnerships and head the 5,358 crosses per match in, it doesn't mean their way was right or the only way.

They're a bit bitter that football evolved and were in denial for ages about it.

I think Brendan has a more evolved vision for Liverpool than Rafa ever had. In no way taking anything from Rafa's great achievements with the club, great manager, but on long term, I think B.R will surprise us all

Exactly, they're an embarrassment. They're paid to be experts yet can't grasp the basics.

Also, i'l be using 'it took them close to 2 years to admit there were other formations besides 4-4-2 and 4-5-1 after Jose and Rafa burst on the scene.'

in future if that's okay with you...sums our attitude to football up perfectly.

Remember that Rafa took over a team who were already in the CL.

In the 5 seasons prior to Rafa we had finished 4th, 3rd, 2nd, 5th, 4th, and had won 4 major trophies in those 5 seasons.

Not remotely the same as taking over in today's circumstances would be. People are deluded if they think Rafa would have a magic wand to get us back in the top 4 now. Don't forget we finished 7th under him.

We may well have finished higher than the 8th of last season, but to assume top 4 would be very silly.

we were declining rapidly when rafa took over. Ged got given the chequebook and poo'ed the bed.

Rafa got given a 60 point a season side in serious decline and had to give away his only quality striker for a pittance.

posted on 3/8/12

you're right...

But the money we've spent since his departure is already more than we did in 6 seasons.

You have to remember that Benitez has struck a deal for Dani Alves for 8m in 2006 but the board wouldn't sanction it.

We has some cash for a year or two but then the yanks decided they'd spent enough. They sucked the life out of us!

Rick Parry and Christian Purslow along with Gillette and Hicks were a NIGHTMARE!!

Also Rafas net spend was practically zero
----------------------------------------------------------

Behave lad, he spent nearly £250M gross, which was about £105M net.
========================

it was nowhere near that, and when you consider he got us into the top4 almost every season, it becomes a minus spend!!!

- - - -

That is an utterly flawed argument.

You cannot cherry pick which parts of the balance sheet you want to include in your assessment of his spending because you could also thrown in your massive wage bill which he was also responsible for swelling to over £120m

comment by Bobby (U4765)

Wage bill? 4th highest in the league wasn't it, considering Rafa was averaging higher than 4th place that's pretty good isn't it?

Yeah we've already had those figures, and we've also had other figures that show 78, with a bit more detail.

posted on 3/8/12

My point being bobby that Anfield was making the point case that Rafa may have spent £105m in transfer but he also earned huge sums from qualifying from the CL, effectively cancelling out his spend.

My point being that if you are going to put revenue into a Net Spend calculation you also have to include other costs, such as wages, in the interest of making a balanced argument.

Well it's better than having absolutely no information at all to go with your figures isn't it?

Did you ever bother reading the telegraph article.

Not sure why I bothered asking, obviously not.

Strange how the fact that he totally lost the plot towards the end of his tenure & the team was playing like drains, seems to have been wiped from the memories of the some Rafa loving Liverpool fans - it's bizarre.
