a couple of very astute signings in Le Roi and Hughesy and were champions again. Not some here's half a billion quid buy everyone scam.

Carry on living in dreamland - not every one on this board was born last week.

You relieved us of Ray Wikins for £815,000 in 1979 and the list of players you've dispossesed other clubs of since is long and illustrious - and very expensive!

Gazza, what you're defending now, would you be attacking if Spurs had been given the dough instead and left you where you were, or would you be saying good on yer me old cockernee lillywhite chums. Attacking I suspect.

You can't put a wage cap on it, it's ludicrous. It's like a rival company wa ting to offer me a job on double wages and then another rival not being able to meet the offer so someone steps in and caps it at an amount both companies can afford. Forget that, I want my monies!

Footballers are no different. Why shouldn't someone go somewhere for 100k a week when everyone else only offers 60? It's not 'greed' it's not being a 'mercebary' it's wanting the best possible financial situation for you and your family in what is a short career in the scheme of things.

Honestky, too many fans talk about these things and let emotion dictate their logic. Just use common sense instead and a lot becomes more clear.

BrummieBlue, when you say relieved you of, do you mean gave you money we'd generated through 50k gates and shirt sales (even in div 2)?

TPNM the few million would've worth a lot in todays market. And football is a lucrative business theae days, clubs are perfectly within their right to spend big money as compared to before.

JNR, no question there bud, and you have to spend big to stay at the top, a lot of my ire is from the complete randomness of the PSG, Malaga, Anzi, City thing. Throw enough cack at a blanket etc

Why do think you were getting 50k gates? Had it not been for that tragic night in Munich you would never have been in that unique position and you've used it to your advantage ever since at the detriment to other clubs.
Do not think that as a fan who used to go every week in the 70's I'd rather us kept Ray Wilkins who was idolised at the Bridge at the time, instead of £815,000.

Like I said if you hadn't been bailed out in 1912 there wouldn't have been a club called Manchester United and we wouldn't be here now debating this. All we'd have is some reference to Old Newton heath, in Wiki, as a football team that used to reside in the backstreets of greater Manchester!

Why don't you be grateful for what you have, instead of trying to ridicule your competition!

TheNumber 7, Its why I also said buying young tallent and then developing them into stars, look Welbeck and Cleverly are graduates, Pogba, Morrison and Fryers were supposed to be more graduates getting thier chance but they got greedy. More importantly we have smalling, Jones, The twins, Chicharito and hopefully lucas all young tallent that we are either developing or have developed into what they are today. In 3 to 5 yrs these guys will be major stars all thanks to being developed buy us rather than for us to buy them in 5 yrs when someone has had the time to develop them

The Telegraph are a decent broadsheet tbh

When The Telegraph, The Guardian or The Times come out with something as concrete as that, I tend to believe them.

Bloodred are they reporting it too?!

No VRF, just saying. Sorry...

Brummie, why do you equate saving the club from going out of business in 1902 for today's equivalent of 250k with the windfall clubs?

As far as your Munich reference, perhaps. However, the team that was all but wiped out that night was already the most exciting young powerful side this country had ever seen, do you not think they'd have built the legacy?

Still unsure about Lucas. Very worried he'll be a flop.
