NASA should have commissioned the use of Ben Davies' shot to send Curiosity to Mars.

Just being current!

What's the problem with that statement Strett/ Webbo? Steej is a Belper Town fan, he thinks they have a strong squad as compared to, say, a weaker one last season.

At the back of last season with pretty much the same squad Belper won about 15 games on the bounce in a hard league. Also. For those not aware, Tom Naylor played a season at Belper 2 seasons ago and got player of the season. Yes they are carpet fitters, accountants, shop workers etc but most of them were 'nearly' players for clubs like Sheffield Utd. Remember Paris Simmons? He was here last season but wasn't up to it. Like I say. Team spirit is high at Belper and the squad are no mugs. Hopefully this will spur the kids on to get better... else they'll end up on the winning side one day.. if that makes sense?

It makes more sense than Stretts nonsense.

Do you think Ben Davies was making a statement.

Missed penalty on purpose?

Why is anyone bothered about friendly results. Our pre season results last season weren't great but in the league after 4 games we had 12 points, best start for years.

Contrast that with the 1992/3 season where we hammered everybody in preseason friendlies, were favourites for promotion but after 7 games we only had 3 points.

The objectives in preseason friendlies is first match fitness, second not to injure yourself and third to try out a few things from the training pitch. The result is often of little consequence.

Steej...

I go and watch Ilkeston when I can. Remember watching Belper at the NMG. They where on a fantastic run and came away with a very organised and solid 1-0. Was surprised that they didn't quite make it but I guess it was just that step too far.
Who is the center back at Belper who had our top striker in his pocket? He looked awsome. I think he might have been your captain.

Remember the game well. Just after New Year. Coincidently it was Jordan Turner who scored on that day too. I seem to recall Belper started well, defended well for most of the match and then got lucky with some awful defensive mix up from Ilkeston. We were going loopy in the clock end stand. Good times. I didn't realise so many on here occasionally watch non league football!

To be fair SteeJ, it makes a refreshing change. Last year, a day out at Ilkeston would cost a family of 4 £20.
You might not get the quality, but the desire and passion particularly from the lads starting off their careers again after rejection is a pleasure to watch. Throw into that a couple of local Derby's, and you have a great product.
I think Ilkeston averaged attendences of well over 600 last season. Away days are great too! Hope Belper do well this season. It will be great to have another local rival in the same league (assuming we don't go up again)

Well said that man. Couldn't agree more. Belper have started a scheme whereby a family of 4 can get admission to the match and a programme for £12! Furthermore, to make the experience better there will be activities for kids so that the parents can get on with watching the match. I find it's more of a community affair at this level and really good to get involved. The Ilkeston lot were a real asset to the league last season. Shame you went up like you said. Derby have a market to sell to but so do smaller clubs. Maybe people should support 'local' when Derby are playing miles away...

I do. Borrowash Vics. Firendly clubhouse to watch the match from on a rainy day and keep check on the scores on the telly while supping a nice pint of real ale. Cheap & chips.

Good to hear Iwas.. Can't beat supporting the local team. There does come a point when you put things into perspective and look at the comparisons of supporting Derby.

Price - Ilkeston Wins
Ambition - Ilkeston Wins
Honesty (the rubbish that clough goes on about) - Ilkeston win
Beer and Food - Ilkeston Wins
Having a laugh and not going home angry - Ilkeston Wins

I guess the only thing you can't substitute in terms of watching Derby is the atmosphear and butterflies that almost every game brings (the adrenaline).

By the way.. This isn't an advert for everyone to start going and watching Ilkeston (although you should give it a try).

Saul Deeney has a better first-touch than Conor Doyle.

Stop worrying about the result so much....
It was kids, trialists mainly... so not awfully indicative of the season ahead!
