I think he will replace Shelvey in that formation. Shelvey looked good though, needs to continue playing with confidence but resist the urge to dive in.
Shelvey is probably more suited to an advanced midfield role, and will be a decent player to have on the bench. However it is important for his development that he gets minutes regularly.
Lucas is pretty much indispensable now.
Anyone see the game last night where Shelvey got himself into a spot of trouble on the right flank? The opposition player was cutting in and Lucas stepped in and pinched the ball away with the minimum of fuss. We've missed that, last season Spearing would have dived in and given a free kick away.
I'm going to ask something that will not be popular. When I see what's happening to Liverpool over the last 3 years, it reminds me a little of Barça in the early 2000s. Changes of managers, overspending on players by different managers and when each manager changed, players could not fit that new system - so we overspent on more players. The problem was that we bought a lot of players that were not as good as the money we paid and had little or no resale value.
Now, if you look at Hodgson, Dlagleish and potentially Rodgers signings, the same thing is happening. With a couple of exceptions, Suarez and IMO Borini in the future, most of the signings will not make as much money if the club decides to sell them. So, if Rodgers doesn't work out, you will have a squad built by 4 different managers with different systems but no resale value.
Are you not a little worried by this¿

Saw it! Lucas. . He seems to improve in every game.
Hodgsons signings? What are you talking about? Poulsen Konchesky and Mereiles are out the door already! Only brad jones and joe cole remain.
As far as Rodgers signings go, he is specifically looking at younger signings AND bringing the youth through.
Look at the average age of the team starting yesterday.
Not as worried as I am about your upside down question mark, which has quite frankly blown my mind.
Shelvey, 100%.
Lucas is key, and he'll be raring to go after a frustrating season last year.

If we carry on like Barca did then we are going in the right direction.
mate, a couple of seasons ago we would have won last night 1-0 off a set piece.
the opposition was poor but the manner in which the moved the ball and the opposition around the pitch was very pleasing, i am worried a bit if we play the big boys and get overrun, but it seems the smaller teams coming here and parking the bus might just struggle.
cant wait!

I am concerned about that which is why I hope that Rodgers gets given time, even if we go through a rough patch. Short-term pain for long-term gain, no¿
why are all your question marks upside down, i have to turn my ipad the wrong way to read them.
stop it please, its annoying me for some reason!!!

I was having problems with the I-pad doing things like profound language but I figured it out! Bìtches ¡
replace Lucas? are you mad Sir.
Lucas is fast becoming a worldy.. outstanding again last night
KLS, did you figure out that an upside-down exclamation mark is simply the letter 'i'¿
No Didi, on the I-pad you have to keep your finger on what ever button you to change and it's the same for exclamation and question marks! I know it's only a very small achivement in life but I was buzzing my tìts off when I figured it out¡
Cheers for the response. I would obviously never dream of replacing Lucas, I was just wondering, as I was under the impression that Allen was more of a deep lying midfielder than an attacking midfielder, didn't watch much of Swansea tbh. I would be happy with a midfield of Gerrard, Lucas, and Allen.
Just hope we still bring in a pacey RW / RF

yes, it's unfortuante
a problem? not so much on the pitch as a banter problem.
very good (but not brilliant) players get slated and LALed nonstop and aren't given any time to settle just because we overpaid by 4 mil or so on each.
It's peanuts cash wise in the grand scheme but good ammunition for the doommongers and Liverpool haters. And the players themselves are under more pressure because of their fees.
