Good question!
I guess we can't compete with the likes of Chelsea, however here's some info....
The Abramovich era, here goes.......
Gross spend. Transfers out. Nett
£524,700,000 £140,600,000 £384,100,000(chelsea)
£312,150,000 £220,900,000 £91,450,000(Man U)
Oh yeah and 1 CL final appearance, thanks so much JT...... priceless

But you're the biggest club in the world and we're only 46th?!
Rooneysnewcomb -
There is nothing better than putting a WUM in their place on the very first post. And the fact it was done with facts and in such a commical way makes it even better.

=====================================
Thats why they're champions and have been in 4 champions league finals recently and you haven't.
Glad that was cleared up very quickly
Maybe because we have the best manager in the world, and you just keep sacking good managers....
Oh by the way, good decision on Ray Wilkins - not!
It's the abu-diabibi + rooneysnewcomb double team tag!

I just wanted to know whether you thought that:
De Gea was going to make as many match winning saves as Van der Saar.
Cleverley was going to be the new Sneijder.
Giggs was going to gain a yard of pace.
Hernandez was going to deliver against Barca.
Having seen you beat us fair and square last season I was shocked at the gap between yourselves and Barcelona.
Can you improve?
I can't remember a time when United could afford the best players in the world. In the 90s we could never compete with the big Italian teams. Then we couldn't compete with Real Madrid. Then it was Abramovich's and then City's fossil-fuel riches as well as Real.
Somehow the quality of our management with its stability and long-term planning, allied to the financial strength generated by our massive support and history have enabled us to do better than some of these teams despite spending less.
Then maybe you should have actually asked those questions instead of being a prat?
Since you have demonstrated how good you are at wumming I shan't bother with a response.......
............However I'd like to ask you how you feel about Chelsea's European performance since Abramovich?
I'm not even a Man Utd fan, i just can't stand WUMS. I can't work out if this is a sad lonely little man who's team haven't signed anyone this season to replace their ageing squad so is taking it out on someone else. Or someone with the brain power of Harvey Price.

Ah the joy of an education, good answer and thank you!
But it still does not really answer the question.
United need Sneijder and maybe two more world class players to make the jump to Barca's level today.

Answer: and it isn't to replicate the net spend of £384,100,000 - because that clearly hasn't worked out so well....
Oh for those of you who like it on tv when there is a big score they normally spell it out, just to emphasise the point.
So here's my attempt...
Three hundred and Eighty Four MILLION One Hundred Thousand Pounds
Geez, when you see it like that it doesn't actually sound so much!

Chelsea in the CL, always good for a laugh.

My guess is that SAF is not planning to jump to Barcalona's level today but in the next three or four years.
That is why he is building another team with young players. It is how he has achieved great success and kept it going for twenty years.
Can people stop talking about how we need to catch up with Barcelona. To do that would require investment in the region of 100s of millions and that is just not feasible for anyone with the imminent FFP rules. Barcelona are one of those special teams that comes along one in a lifetime and their success is the product of years of investment in their youth systems and from many of their stars growing up playing together.
I am excited about the signings United have made and about the young players in our reserve and youth teams. I believe that in the next few years we will see Fergies Fledgings Part 2 with players like Cleverley, Morrision, Pogba, Tunnicliffe, Lingard etc making the step up.
I also believe that we don't NEED Sneijder although he would obviously be a nice addition to the squad. He is an attacking midfielder and we already have a good one in Wayne Rooney. I would like to see a more defensive midfielder come in that would see Carrick play a more advanced role where he is much more effective.
That is all, peace out brothers!
Can Manchester United ever win the CL again now that they can no longer afford the best players in the world?
==========================================
can chelsea ever win the CL again once they're banned from it by FFP and abramovich has stopped funding your 60-80m/season losses?
doubt it.
oshealegend. you added the word again. Chelsea have NEVER won it.
