is everyone happy to start the season* like this in midfield:

Nani - Carrick - Anderson - Young
-----------------------------

I'd be delighted!

Man Utd are certainly not going to sign Lahm and Berbatov is not leaving. The joke is on you lol.

Marnick Vermijl will in my opinion get some playing time this season.

Also, why are you so worried about this all of the sudden? Neville was never a viable option last season and O'Shea and Brown were both originally CBs that could play as FBs. Just like Jones, Evans and Smalling. We aren't any worse off than last season.

so long as we dont sign Leighton Baines

O'shea hasnt been a CB for about 10 years!!!! Evans is too slow to be a FB and offers no threat going forward. Dont know enough about Jones and cant see Smalling doing well at FB.
Who the hell is Marnick Vermijl??

Nohlam, for someone with nothing to say, why do u always comment?

I would be ok seeing that midifield line up against relegation fodder but Anderson cant play more than 60 mins without dying (or 3 games in a row for that matter) and i wouldnt trust that CM to hold its own against City, Liverpool or Chelsea (or any of the major european teams for that matter).

Another piece of drivel/article. Well done.

People always doubt me yet before last season started i said our midfield would struggle and - in spite of our successes - it did! Now our opponents have improved and we have failed to improve despite spending £60m!!!!!
Now i am saying that our full back positiong are thin on the ground and unless we improve them, i will be proven right again when come March/April we have Messi and Pedro lining up against Evans and Park at RB and LB!!!

This plank is not a Utd fan and shouldn't be taken seriously

Belgarion... I am a United fan without red-tinted glasses. I cant see our weaknesses as well as acknowlege our strengths. I am not wrong in saying that we dont have sufficient cover at RB/LB and I am correct in saying that we require some more quality in CM - the problem position ALL LAST SEASON and the one we are yet to address despite losing Scholes!!

Yes O'Shea was a CB about 10 years ago - when he was about the same age as Jones and Smalling now. Get he point?

Is Evans any slower than O'Shea? Does he offer any less of a threat than O'Shea going forwards?

Why dont you think Smalling can play at FB? He is pretty quick and very good on the ball. He will make a better FB than O'Shea in my opinion and possibly as good as Brown when at his best.

Vermijl is a 19 year old in the reserves who can play anywhere across the back and looks like a quality player to me.

AHH YES GREAT TRANSFER POLICY!! ACQUIRE THE BEST YOUNG CENTRE BACKS IN THE COUNTRY AND CONVERT THEM TO FULL BACKS!!! effing lunacy!!! Evans is a lot slower than O'shea and not very good on the ball either. O'shea was converted to a FB because he proved a hopeless CB from day one!!

Vermijl is a young Belgian full back who looks a great prospect. Much prefer to see our youngsters given a chance than over rated players like Lahm signed for a fortune.

overrated players like Lahm? Oh my god.. What the F!

B.O.B... pipe down, you offer nothing sensible in your comment and yet seem oblivious to the irony in that..

They arent being converted - they are acting as cover.

And O'Shea was a decent CB, but he had better players in front of him. We have had great CBs for years at United.

As for the speed of Evans - is he really a lot slower than O'Shea? No he isnt. The laws of physics prevent the possibility of being a lot slower than O'Shea.

Our strength in the FB positions isnt any weaker than it was last season. You could even argue that with Valencia's couple of run-outs there and Vermijl coming through we are actually stronger there.

I dont see the problem.

Yes he's such a fantastic player he's led Bayern into a Champions League play off this year and a mere 10 points off a Dortmund side that mainly consisted of kids.

It is weaker because we have lost 3 players who all played at RB without bringing in anyone who is either naturally that position or has been converted to it over yrs of training.. Surely u can appreciate that?

As I have already said - Neville was never a viable option last season, so we have lost only 2 at RB.

In the meantime Valencia has proven himself very capable in that position - I would take him over O'Shea any day of the week. I'd also take Smalling over O'Shea at RB - he is streets ahead of him in terms of ability. If Smalling can play to well at CB then FB shouldnt be a problem for him.

As for Wes, he hardly even got a start last season. How will he be missed?

Then we have Jones that can also play FB if required and the lad Vermijl coming through who can play both sides and is a real talent. The fact you dont even know who he is makes me question whether you are a genuine United fan as he has made some real waves in the reserves.

So no, I dont believe we are any worse off at FB than last season.

Elvis,

This clown isn't a Utd fan. He/She/It was exposed on the old 606. He also isn't aware that De Laet is at the club as well who can play RB.

There is no point arguing as the plonker isn't here for debate but here to wum

aggressive reponse? Are you insane? Oh dear the education card.. good one that, considering you dont have a clue about me. Desperation breeds lunacy.
When did education become the benchmark by which intelligence is measured? Alan Sugar and Richard Branson had limited education whilst Einstein suffered from ADHD.
Education is a reflection of the capacity to be booksmart, nothing more nothing less. For instance, of me and my brother, I am the one with the 10 A*/A GCSEs, 4 As at A level and First Class Hons degree from University of Manchester... He is the one who dropped out of High School at 14.. He is also the one who gets paid hundreds of thousands of pounds a yr to design jet engines and components for Warplanes whilst being able to do complex mental arithmetic that would take me 10 mins with a pen and paper to figure out.
Furthermore, education and football knowledge have nothing to do with one another...
Your grasp on reality seems limited
