My mistake i thought we had sold him. Still, the point stands that he wont be available.

Do you disagree with the fact that O'Shea is the only meaningful loss we have suffered at RB?

This clown isn't a Utd fan. He/She/It was exposed on the old 606. He also isn't aware that De Laet is at the club as well who can play RB.

On loan at Norwich even I know that as a fan of City.

No because i look at it on a wider scale than that. Last season we had Rafael, Brown and O'Shea who all could have filled the position but Brown got injured. We still had 2 options so thus had cover ifone got injured/suspended yet still ended up playing some games with MFs at RB!
Add to this that Rafael is still very raw despite his huge progress. He is often a liability against opponents with pace who like to run at him although he was outstanding against Bale(massively over-rated player)!
I honestly dont believe that having ONE very inexperienced 19 yr old as our only natural right back is a risk worth taking. Ok Fabio can play there too but what happens if he picks up an injury; something he is fast developing a reputation for doing!

Brown made 15 appearances last season. The majority of which were cup matches against lower league sides, and in most of these matches he played at centre back. Sorry, but he is not a loss at all.

The only meaningful loss is O'shea, but we've bought another centre back in Jones, which frees up Smalling/Evans to move into the full back position when needed.

The defence is not worse off than last season. If anything i'd argue its stronger.

At CB certainly...
Just like at LW/RW we are stronger but CM we are weaker and GK makes me want to cry with uncertainty.

But Brown wasnt injured when Valencia played at RB. SAF just preferred to play Valencia there and to be fair he did very well.

We arent any weaker in terms of numbers or ability at RB or LB in my opinion. If Vermijl keeps on developing then I think we could even be stronger.

Rafael and Fabio as they grow will improve their injury records. This is a fact. Jones can play at Right back and so can Valencia and Smalling. I don't see the issue. Smalling look far better than Oshea at RIght back last season. Oshea was a big liability and was constantly beaten for pace.

MUFC had predicted we will have Evans and Park at left and Right back when we play in March. What a prediction. By the way can you give me the lottery numbers please? MUFC knows he is talking rubbish and he wants your attention. I would know.

Nohlman i never said we would finish 5th last season... However, i will go on record as saying that UNLESS WE BUY A CREATIVE CM we will not finish in the top 2 this season.
What i said last season was that we desperately needed to replace Scholes or our CM would struggle last season. Was i wrong? Completely dominated by City and Barca, 0 goals and 0 assists from CM in domestic competition and every United fan complaining that our CM was poor.
I stand by my words, we were lucky that our rivals underachieved and we remain in need of a world class central midfielder to compete with the likes of De Jong, Yaya Toure, Lampard, Gerrard, Fabregas, Nasri, Sneijder, Schweinsteiger, Sahin, Ozil, Alonso, Xavi, Iniesta, Busquets, Essien. There are a lot of teams that we were lucky to avoid in last seasons champions league and there are a lot of players around that are far better than what we have.
We couldnt even string 3 forward passes together against Barca because we dont have the technical ability in that hole. Say what you want about playing with wingers and just needing CMs to sweep up but what happens when we come up against teams from whom we cant get the ball and when we do we dont have the ability in there to distribute it to our best/most threatening players. How many times was Rooney coming back to the edge of our box to get the ball against Barca?? Ridiculous.
Sticking to a system of passing the ball to our wings and running is all well and good against blackburn but we NEVER had a plan B last season and lost so many points due to a combination of poor decisions by our CMs and a lack of penetration through the middle if our wide players/strikers were struggling (see Birmingham/blackpool/Wolves/Stoke and a number of other away games for evidence).

I actually agree with a lot of what you have said about the CM positions. I just dont agree about the FB spots. Neville and Wes hardly played last term and we now have better options that O'Shea, so I just dont see how we can be weaker.

Youre probably right but i dont know enough about this Jones to comment and i think O'shea is a better player than Evans. Likewise, i would prefer to keep Smalling concentrating on his development at CB because he could become an incredible player for us one day!

I agree about Smalling, however he is only cover for RB. I think that Rafael, Fabio and Valencia will all be in front of him. Possibly even this Vermijl kid who just looks too god for the reserves now.

Why have i never heard of this Vermijl kid yet i am convinced that Pogba, Tunnicliffe and Morrison are the next big things?!?!?

is he a youth of reserve cos i dont watch reserve football much :/

--------------------------------
He is a reserve. Has done very well since arriving from Standard Liege and been one of the most consistent performers last season for me. However, he is a defender so fans dont get as excited as they will over the likes likes of Morrison and Pogba. But he looks like a cracking prospect and one that is ready to step up. Perhaps needs to beef up a bit, but good cover for now.

I believe that the United scout that found him said that he was the best young FB prospect that he had ever seen. Or so his dad claimed!

We lack height at the back, and we've lost O'Shea. Evra and the twins are knee high to a grasshopper which worries me.

Here is a video on Vermijl. It is worth watchign right to the end as you see how aware he is and the intelligence of his play.

--------------------
They all make up for a lack of height by having great leaps. In the FA cup last season Raf and Fab were both out jumping the Arsenal centre backs.
Doubt their height will be an issue, Big Sam no longer manages a Premier League team, Smalling could always play at right back against Stoke
