But of course it's all about the money

He obviously turned down City, that's why Mankini was fuming

Anyone else think the signign of RVP will give Rooney the kick up the backside he's been needing

He may have scored a lot of goals last season (keep in mind 9 were penalties), but how often in games did he just seem to cruise through it. Giving away possession, breezing through games thinking he was untouchable

Now with RVP at the club, Rooney will have to work hard to retain his status as being the club's number 1 forward.

I don't think he was crusing. It's not in Rooney's make up. I think he is just subject to dips in form. It should also be pointed out that he suffered from awful service (or total lack of it) at times last season. This saw him get frustrated and come back into midfield, where he frequently lost possession.

Good signing. I reckon you'll be guaranteed for second place now.

Not only that, but Kagawa will provide very strong competition for the number 10 spot. Rooney will know that if he is clumsy with the ball when operating behind RVP, there is someone who is more of a specialist at unlocking defences than him more than happy to take his place.

Actually, since Kagawa signed (and before the prospect of RVP signing arose) I was beginning to think that putting Rooney on the left of the front three could be a great solution to the puzzle: Welbeck as the spearhead, Kagawa pulling the strings behind him, Rooney doing a David Villa impression coming in from the left and Nani / Valencia doing the same on the right.

lost the league on goal difference, so signed the leagues top scorer. desperation? no. missing peice of the puzzle? yes.

We will always be a 442 team (on the whole) because thats the way Fergie has and always will play.

Rooney on the left has never really worked IMO. When we had Ronaldo and Tevez it worked a little but thats onyl because the other 2 were so good we were cruisign through most games

I feel our best bet is to convert Kagawa into a Silva type player cutting in from the left but Fergie has been talking about Kagawa as a forward so Im not sure that will be the case.

I knew weeks ago that he didn't want to go to City otherwise he'd have moved there agesa go. City would have paid ANYTHING to get him. You only need to see Mr Mancini crying about it to see how desperate he was to get him.

Maybe so but I think City already having Aguero, Tevez, Dzeko, Balotelli up front was an improtant factor

a). Mancini couldnt have gone all out to get ANOTHER world class striker

b). RVP probably recognised he'd have to rotate a lot

Why did he keep moaning about it then ? he was desperate to sign him and kept on making comments about lack of funds.

Meaning he wanted to try and force it through with massive wages and cash.

Even if City had got RVP, would he have improved their first XI? I dont think so

Aguero and Tevez are individually just as good as RVP and they have forged a fantastic partnership

I dont think them missing out on RVP is too daming for them. However, them onyl signign Rodwell is very suprising indeed.

A worrld class CB to partner Kompany would have me very worried. At one point, it hought they were going to end up with a Kompany-Thiago Silva CB paring

RVP did say he wanted to go to United, that's when SAF boastfully said he is MINE couple of months ago.
