he's from yorkshire, what did you expect?

its one good innings. calm down england fans. he struggled badly against the windies and has begun strongly against the saffers. lets see a little bit of consistency before you start praising the lord.

This is the worse kind of comment you can get on these flippin forums. This is a cricket forum, I like to think that cricket lovers generally come on here. I also like to think that cricket lovers enjoy watching a good innings, especially if its played by a young lad under intense pressure against a very good bowling attack.

No-ones lauding him as an atg, just appreciating a decent innings. We're all so eager to comment on a kid when he doesn't quite cut it...

'this is a cricket forum' - yes
'cricket lovers come on here' - yes
'we enjoy a good innings by young batsmen' - yes

it was a superb innings yes but to alrady say he is going to be a massive part of the future is stupid so early. plenty of people have looked better and haven't gone anywhere. give the lad time and then judge.

'We're all so eager to comment on a kid when he doesn't quite cut it...' - speak for yourself pal.

Welll done young Bairstow. Dad would be proud.

And make dad even prouder with a century and first innings lead.

plenty have looked better ????

when was the last time an england batsman came in in a situation like that against an aattack like that and steered his team back in to the match ?

i cant think of any innings as impressive from a young rookie for england since thorpe's century on debut.

it wasnt a good innnings. in the situation it was an outstanding innings, and i stand by my assessment that it shows that he will be an integral part of the england set up for years.

in my opinion, a star was born yesterday

When Jonny came to the crease England were in total disarray, and he had already seen 3 very senior, and excellent batsmen, and 1 young and very promising batsman take the walk back to the pavilion.

He came out to face the best bowling attack in world cricket right now ( joint with ours of course) and those bowlers are all in tremendous form.

He played an innings that will never be forgotten in my eyes and if England go on and win this test match then he will have ensured we remain the best test match cricket team in the world.

pakking, nobody is saying anything other than he has played a great great innings Who knows what the future holds.

Maksi - . In some ways Bairstow's innings yesterday reminded me of Ben Hollioake#s one day debut when he flayed glenn mgrath etc all round Lords. As we know sadly Ben never fulfilled his talent, but for me yesterday's innings was probably the most impressive knock by an england rookie since then, even though dozens have tried their luck since that day.

Of course you are right and you cant predict the future, but i dont think there's any harm in saying what you think will happen though sometimes, and for me I would be surprised if he doesnt become a star player for england for the next 10-15 years based on that one (partial) innings alone. He showed all the skills that england have searched for in vain in dozens of players down the years.

Agree with every bit of that JPB.

Imagine if he had failed. Crikey we could have been skittled for less than 120.

Let's see how he gets on today because a century would certainly put us in a strong position on day 3 of this test match.
I NEED THIS VICTORY from our boys

I think he would need 150 or a double to put us in a match winning position, and that's without Prior at the other end.

If he does that not only does it show he's a decent prospect, but it would be one of the finest innings ever played.

The burning question of the day is, IF Bairstow goes on to make a deserved and very valuable century can we forgive him his luminous ginger nut?

Scribe.

You're more forgiving than me, the bloke's obviously got a talent for this cricket malarky but he should still be roundly abused for being seen in public in possesion of extremely offensive hair
