Would like to see Froome win this one.

Why aren't the likes of Wiggins and Cavendish in this one?

Why aren't the likes of Wiggins and Cavendish in this one?

I suppose they need a break, and I don't think they were ever going to participate - they can't do everything. I know that Wiggins was due to do the Tour of Denmark, but he has been pulled out - Cav is starting this race, which begins tomorrow, and I guess the thinking is the Tour of Denmark is a better 'fit' for the lead up to the World Championships later in September.

Both Wiggins and Cav will be taking part in the Tour of Britain, which starts on the 9th September.

Ok. I'm quite new to the world of cycling, so am not sure how it all works.

Great that they'll both be in the ToB next month though, will definitely be trying to get out for one of the stages.

We are all utd, the grand tours are punishing so most riders will ride no more than 2 out of the 3 cycling "majors" a year. This yrs tour od Spain is turning out to be a good one and more exciting than the tour de France. Froome has to be the favourite so far expecially with the time trial still to come which i expect he will be first or second in. i have a few quid on Valverde and Gesink for a top 3 finish though so would be nice to see those 3 grab the top spots.

Vuelta been a great race so far, J Rod sticking it to the ex-dopers, froome been naive and looks cooked, too much racing at this intensity

Today's stage was an absolute epic that came from completely out of the blue. The sort you'll read about in cycling books in years to come.

Contador finally broke Rodríguez attacking from over 50km out, and came in on an empty tank with just 6 seconds over Valverde, who clawed back over 1:30 on the final climb.

Purito showed real class after crossing the line. Loosely quoted off the top of my mind:

"Today was a victory for cycling [...] It will go down in history. I was on the losing end but I'm proud just to have been a part of it."

Watched yesterdays stage where Roddy had the measure on what were incredibly.steep climbs.

That finish was murderous. Great viewing, but I bet more than one rider would've liked to kill the organisers.

Anyone know what the 7 finger salute by Contador was at the end of the Vuelta? A tribute to Lance perhaps?

posted on 12/9/12

No, it was a reference to the 7 grand tours (3 Tours, 2 Giros, 2 Vueltas) he's won - including the titles he was dispossessed because of his ban.

Ah so he included his banned titles also...

Nice of him eh.

Whatever the rest of the world thinks, he obviously feels they were legit - or at least wants to make it appear that way.

What do you think was he a legit rider?
