Who starts on Tuesday?

I was at the game pretty much agree with all you have wrote.

The lack of midfield ball winner was plain to see. We also didn't look fit throughout the team. I agree with what you said about Zat Knight and both goals... I wasn't impressed with Mears yesterday. He got forward more effectively than Ricketts at times but the end product was woeful.

We also gave the ball away far too cheaply, and lacked any real pace going forward, and the movement off the ball was awful. It was as bad a performance, for me, since the Stoke game at Wembley.

Hopefully the players will be fired up on Tuesday. They need to fight for every point, rather than have the "big I am" attitude that presumes we belong in the Premier League.

would go with above but riley and vela instead of mears and eagles.vela and andrews could hold and release mavies to play free role.

Well we won't get that midfield enforce in by Tuesday. With that in mind, I'd go for:

Bogdan

Mears
Knight
Mills
Alonso

CYL
Andrews
Pratley
Mavies
Eagles

Sordell

We were far too open through midfield yesterday. So I'd put Pratley in there to be an extra body. This gives Eagles and CYL a bit more licence to roam in attack. Eagles looked effective when he came on yesterday. I liked Sordell. Offered something a bit different from what we are accustomed to. Looked to drop off an link play a bit.

Special mentions to Ricketts, Petrov and Ream who were all especially awful yesterday. Ricketts surprisingly so - which is what disappoints me most.

I'd like is to be a bit more patient with the ball. It's always going forward too quickly and thus coming straight back.

You think Mears did okay!!!????? He was absolutely shocking going forward IMO and not much better defensively. I agree that Knight appeared to have a good game but I can't help this feeling that he makes life difficult for whoever he's partnered with. Thought Ricketts was just as bad as Mears if not worse. Agree (as I think pretty much everyone will) that KD was poor, he looked so slow and immobile but he did win most of his headers. I thought Lee looked like one of our more dangerous players although the final product was lacking. Disagree about Sordell too I think he has to play thought he was one of the better performers. Also Eagles looked like the only player who gave a damn. So after all that my team would be 4-5-1: Bogdan, Riley, Mills, Ream, Alonso, Lee, Andrews, Vela, Mavies, Petrov, Sordell. I've gone for Vela simply because from what I saw last season he seems to be the only CM (apart from Holden) who finds space and can actually pass a ball further than 8 yards, I remember a couple of Campo esque diagonal balls being played. Also I'd have Mavies just behind Sordell as I feel it's his best position (he played there against Liverpool which was probably his best game) also this should hopefully stop Sordell coming so deep to get the ball so that he can actually get in the box.

Of course I could be completely wrong......

Finally I feel I've got to comment on the boos yesterday, I thought it was ridiculous and completely counter-productive to boo at the players at half time, as for at the final whistle I can understand it more as it was a complete shambles however it's only the first game in a long season.

Oh dear my pot noodle's gone cold now.

Ah

Vela instead of Prately for my team. Forgot about him.

Coyle did the blame the player, drop the player thing all last season and nothing got better. It's time he looked at his system, communicated it to the players, stand by one or 2 instead of blaming them all the time.

I don't want a season like last where we tried every player in every position after 10 games and relying on the laws of probabilitry that it will come good eventually.

As for the fans booing, Coyle has really disappointed them with false promises and yet has only given them about 4 performances in the last 50 that were worth applause, so he, quite rightly is under an awful lot of pressure to deliver and the fans are entitled to let him know how far there loyalty & patience will stretch.

I don't care that Gartside wants to give him chance after chance. The fans wont allow it I'm afraid.

So who starts on Tuesday, Bricks?

Drop KD, Ream DM and go 4-5-1.

...& Mills in at CM.

Only dropping KD to allow 5 in midfield.

Frostybean: thought Mears did okay compared to the rest, although I do recall two instances of awful control in the first half - one where he was lucky to keep in play, the other where it went straight out.

He was involved in the couple of decent interchanges we had further up the pitch, though - in the second half, with Lee and Eagles.

I still find it incredible that people want Mavies to be anywhere near the bench, let alone the starting line-up. It takes some doing to be in the centre of midfield and touch the ball as infrequently as he does.

Sordell was bright in parts, as I said, but largely ineffective. N'Gog isn't everyone's cup of tea, and everyone, even those who like him, know where his game is lacking: goals. I like what he brings, though.

Was impressed by Vela's brief appearances last season, but don't know that he's the solution to our problems - haven't seen enough of him, and maybe we're just clutching at straws a bit, as the current lot failed us last season and at the first hurdle this time around. Looks very comfortable in possession, though.

BBS: understand where you're coming from. This was particularly noticeable in the Burnley game.

Vela never even made the bench yesterday so don't get your hopes up on that one

To be honest, I'd play as many youth players as we can. Sounds like the older players couldn't give a toss yesterday. If we played a decent amount of youth and won, it'd show the rest of em how they need to step up and be counted.

Some of our players are far too comfortable at the moment.

There will be three changes possibly 4. Ngog will come in if fit for one of the two up top. Pratley for mavies. Eagles for a winger and mills for a cb

posted on 19/8/12

I don't think you will see a change in formation it will be seen as too early to push panic buttons

n'gog & mavies could be gone by tuesday

posted on 19/8/12

Not sure many will stress as much about mavies after yesterday but in his defence we aren't using him properly.

posted on 19/8/12

I'd go 4-5-1 if N'Gog in't fit ....

Bogdan, Ricketts, Mills, Knight, Mears, Chungy, Vela, Andrews, Mavies, Petrov, Marvin

posted on 19/8/12

Usually I'd question your sanity moses, for putting in Knight ahead of Ream but they were both abysmal yesterday.

Bogdan,Ryley,Alonso,Mills,Knight,Pratley,Andrews,Lee,Eagles,Mavies,Sordell.

Not looked at anyone else's line ups, so apologies if I repeat:

------------------------Boggers
Mears/*Riley--------Mills--------Ream-------Alonso
------------------------Andrews
CYL--------------Eagles/*Mavies--------Petrov
---------------N'Gog/*Afobe------Sordell

*Subs

I'm still not sure I would start Riley over Mears just yet. I would def play Riley at RB in all cups tho. Even though Knight played well (apparently) on Sat I wouldn't even let him near the bench. Eveytime Knight plays and SKD plays its always Knight or Knight via Boggers that boot it up the pitch and concede possession. Same goes for SKD. This league is quick and SKD just hasn't got the pace and the defence are too tempted to hit it long to him.
