For me 3 players really stood out.
Maloney played a blinder. He was fluid down the RHS, defended well and even had a decent crack at goal that only missed by a few feet. Man of the match IMO.
Collins was solid as a rock. He's a no nonsense defender, does what it says on the tin. Didn't do a lot wrong yesterday, and got Man of the Match from the sponsors on the day.
Gileltt was great. He filled the void in front of the defence well and his distribution was great, a great defensive midfielder, I can see him being the first name on the team sheet most games. Allowed McGugan, Radi and Pep to mix it up a bit, and get forward.
Yes the 1st half was slow, much like it was against Fleetwood, but second half we were much more threatening, and Cox made a massive difference when he came on, playing in an AM role behind Dex. Such a livewire, looking forward to seeing him play some more.
This team is only going to get better, and with the promise of a RW coming this week, things are looking pretty rosey at the moment.
Apparently the crowd was only 21.5k, which really surprised me, the ground no way looked 1/3 empty!
Our back 4 impressed me the most. They are all giants yet very confident and assured on the ball. They all looked to pass it out instead of hoof it, it was refreshing to see.
Camp looked good. The midfield linked up well. Reid looked very determined and seemed to really be up for the game, as was Pep. Gillet looks to be very much in the mould of McKenna, when he played well for us. Mcgugan and majewski were inspired at times, he infuriating at others.
Blackstock held the ball up well but never looked like scoring. He needs to have the confidence to wrap his laces round the ball, in fact the whole team didn't shoot enough yesterday and ran into trouble in the penalty area.
I think a pairing of Blackstock and Cox will be effective. They both have a tremendous work rate and with Blackstock being so good at holding the ball up and Cox looking seemingly fearless in this league I hope it will be a fruitful partnership.
First game though. I think we may have some frustrating times ahead waiting for the team to truly gel but top half is a definite possibility. Maybe a cheeky little flirt with the playoffs at the end of the season!
We could use a pacy RM though. Then our team would be complete. Nice depth on the bench as well yesterday, makes a change!
Cox will make a difference for you, it's not just his goals that he brings but also his energy and enthusiasm. As I've said on here before (and you must be getting fed up of me!) he's a 110% player. Once he gets his first goal he'll be flying.
Also as a Swindon fan it's always great to see City beaten.
Camp impressed me yesterday. Came out and took the crosses and hardly put a foot wrong. It's as though the ghost of Billy was put to rest with him.
Maloney, in my opinion was man of the match. Great in the second half down the wing.
Raddi, Pep and Reid all played well. Lewis was his frustrating self but had an ok game
The centre backs worried me a little in the first half. However, Collins dominated the second.
Gillett when passing forward he was superb. Bringing players into the game. With a quick forward in the opposition team though he could struggle. He passed backwards far too many times when it was easier to go forward. Reminded me of McKenna.
Dexter didn't look sharp enough and would benefit from having another forward in the mix with him. Cox looks ideal.
I'd give the team a 7 out of 10 but caution that this team could be taken apart if allowed.
442 in my opinion would be a better starting line-up. Who to drop though? Lewis.
If we get in a good winger, I can see mcgugan and radi being dropped to the bench.
its good to hear moloney had a good game. i've always thought he's looked pretty decent when he's filled in before. another winger and also a cover for left back and i think we are sorted.
