But, when Wilko came in, we had fallen to 4th bottom of the 2nd Division. The next few years were a real whirlwind, without the spend, spend, spend mentality.

666... very good point, we also brought in Vinnie and Gordon, two that, if these forums had been open then, would have been ridiculed up hill and down dale by some!

I hate to think what they'd have posted the day Lee Chapman was brought in?

Here's to a great season!

You can say what you want but we spent our way out of the division,

Apart from our collective indulging of the wum sc*m shirtie by responding to his article in the first place.

When Wilko was brought in there was a real statement of intent with the initial signings of Strachan and Fairclough and the close season saw Jones aswell as seasoned old first div pros like Mickey Thomas and John McClelland recruited and the whole city stood up and took notice. The pre-season game at home to Anderlecht attracted a crowd to rival the previous seasons average attendance and momentum gathered. Today, 4 weeks after the spin doctor predicted the explosion of activity, he's not even bought a box of fireworks never mind any 'kin players.

I know somma injury is a big blow but it can have a major inpact on the rest of them team making it even more of an incentive to show what they can do, you never know paynter might even score 2 in 1 game

My mate Charlie has read this thread and also reminded me that Wilko also brought in Mel Sterland from Rangers and Jim Beglin from Liverpool in his first close season. Seems to me anyone drawing comparisons between the ambition of Silver and Bates is smoking some pretty fine stuff!

Just a few other teams that Norwich beat to promotion last season. Yet in your entire time on JA606 and on the BBC site (I know it's you, Jaunty Fellow) the ONLY team you feel the need to mock and abuse is Leeds.

Do you have some kind of soft spot for us, or do you have some sort of personal agenda that you feel the need to publicise on the internet?

lash please read your comments before posting, sometimes they seem to have been written by the bloke who wrote John Laurie's part for Dad's Army.

Very difficult to compare to the two eras anyway. Transfer fees/wages have disproportionally increased since the late 80s.

To go on a spending spree of 'big names' as you all mentioned would cost millions and millions.

Frank
Could you also compare the clubs eaning capacity between the 2 periods in question please. The pro rata increase in ticket prices should prove of particular interest.

You are right. But my point still stands, its very difficult to compare because the finer details regarding 'Buying Power' in the two eras, well its complicated.

Im simply stating the fact that to go on a spending spree of 'big names' as you all mentioned would cost millions and millions.

I agree with your point entirely, I am not comparing the two squads even, I am commenting that had we had this facility back then, the day those players were bought we would have had certain individuals on here complaining about the signings.

It's in their nature.

Ah so it was an apology you wanted was it and here's me thinking that you wanted to make me feel uncomfortable, how silly of me. Sorry is not a word recognised by my version of spellchecker, but then you wouldn't know that would you lash.

i want nothing from idiots, you seem to assume rather than be reactive to the extent of being able to show emotion in relation to idiocy

Lash, that's a completely meaningless sentence my friend. Once again you stoop to insults, mmmm.
