how the predictions fared?

Good post viru and it appears that none of us got it quite right, although I may have made the worst prediction of the lot

The funny thing is with a little more luck we were not far off winning this series 3:0, as predicted.

Who on earth makes nearly 400 in the first innings of a test, at home, and then loses the thing, and the second and third test were both looking like England victories for quite a large chunk of the fifth days.

Great series, and thoroughly enjoyed every bit of it. Well done to Finn, and Bairstow who did well and I have high hopes for Mr Taylor too.

I blame easy victories over india and australia for making us drop our standard a little, and the Saffers jumped on that.

maksi - England will whitewash SA and will remain no.1 for 5 years.

SA played quality cricket and I dont see them having any weaknesses. not even in the subcontinent.

michael vaughan said that too, but they havent got any spin bowlers have they ?

slight problem in india i'd have thought.

I think last time they came steyn was gd enough to take most indian wickets. and that time India had inform harbhajan singh, inform VVS and dravid. And still we managed a draw. Now I highly doubt whether we can win against SA at home or away.

yeah fair enough viru, but beating what you might call a relatively week india side doesnt necessarily means that a team is good at playing in sub continent conditions. to be called a team who is good in all conditions you need spin bowlers.

imo

Last 2 times SA toured India they drew 1-1, I think SA went 1-0 in both those series as well.

Firstly, you're seriously deluded if you think luck decided this series and secondly, England had the lion's share of the luck.
