Alex Buttner

He is a rather odd signing tbh he is coming into his prime years, so i am hoping we will be seeing a lot of him this season.

In place of Evra? I bet none of you even heard of him before yesterday.

See what effect the challenge has on Evra, if nothing changes then allow the kid a shot.

He wasn't horrible against Everton you crazy person! He was fine and will play in 99% of the games.

Buttner was not bought to be United's next star, just cover if Evra gets injured and until Fabio comes back.

Don't pin your hopes on him, he's just a better reserve left back than Evans or Rafael and may only play league cup games all season unless Evra has an injury.

Buttner is a back up to Evra - he wont walk straight in he has no proven quality to justify it.

@funrob,

Evra was terrible against Everton.

Evra didn't exactly do much wrong against Everton...

Please describe exactly what Evra did wrong in the Everton game OP. Going forward I think he could've put a few more crosses in and done a little better in the final 3rd but other than that I can't remember him doing much wrong.

The manager and coaching staff will want to see what Buttner's like in training first before they throw him straight into the first team. They'll want to see how he reacts to playing with a new set of team-mates and in new surroundings.

I'd bet good money you knew absolutely nothing about him before he was first mentioned a few days ago so you couldn't possibly suggest that he'd be any better or worse than Evra.

How many times did someone like Rooney have to track back and cover because Evra had run off up the pitch?

And when he did have possesion and was attacking, how many times did he attempt to cross only for it to hit the fullback?

And then he has the audacity (sp) to try a shot in the 90th minute when we are throwing people foward desparate for an equaliser...

i dont think Evra was that bad. He looked a lot sharper than last season.

Im not suggesting that Evra be dropped, just explaining why I thought he was poor vs Everton.

i do believe he needs to adapt his game and not go forward as much but buttner will not start ahead off him.

Can you not just direct your reply at the OP instead of making out like we all share the same opinion?

That's what I've noticed with a few of the other teams' supporters which come on our board. They tar us all with the same brush just because of what one or two people have said.

It's just insane that earlier today we have people saying Rooney should be benched after a less than brilliant game against Everton, now we have this guy saying that Evra was 'horrible' against Everton and should be dropped for a guy that has never played one minute in front of anyones watching eyes

Sometimes I want to end it all. I really do

Hurry up Fulham game.

If any of you think Evra's attack minded, wait until you see Buttner.

I know you can't judge a player by watching a video on youtube, but when a video for a defender is titled "Alexander Buttner Skills And Goals", it worries me a little bit.

That said, when he plays, I'll be more than glad to give him a good chance, not just one or two games to prove himself.

I'm going to ignore all the bad reviews I've seen him get from Vitesse supporters and people who watch Dutch football and form an opinion of my own.

Never heard of him myself, but he can't be worse than Evra surely?

I hope it gives him the kick up the back side he needs, it's about effort, it's clear he loves the club but he just hasn't been good enough.

Wouldn't mind Evans getting a few games there to be honest.

Sir Alex Ferguson said: “Alexander is one of the best young left backs in Europe and we’re delighted to sign him. He’s someone we’ve been watching for a while now. He gives us some really exciting options in that position.”

Evra isn't so bad he deserves comments like 'he can't be worse than Evra'!

Evra had a tough season. I'm sure the club have addressed that in pre-season and while he wasn't the Evra of old on Monday he was a lot better than he was last season. At least he did the defending bit right.

We just need a few games to have been played before we can cast judgement on players this season (i'll admit to Nani criticism myself).

I think people are wrong about Buttner. He was a cheap, fairly capable signing and I very much doubt anyone at the club expects him to be a regular left back, just a 'worst case scenario' signing.

it's not about effort***

Don't let the fact that he was cheap put you off.

We didn't exactly pay over the odds for Evra and Heinze.

You just never know.

Hopefully he'll prove to be a valuable player and a great piece of business.

And Sir Alex would say that about a player!

He would hardly say the truth as in 'We wanted Baines but Everton wouldn't sell him at a price we wanted so we decided to pin all our faith on Evra again and hope he won't get injured but if he does we found a cheapo signing from Holland who no-one in his homeland expected him to ever be bought by United but will step in for league cup games and will be happy to be understudy to Fabio when he comes back from QPR'

posted on 22/8/12

I've heard a few people say that Evra was poor against Everton but he didn't do much wrong to be singled out for criticism. Buttner is a strange signing, non of the top clubs in Holland have moved for him, he's 23 so it's not like he's an up and coming teenager, he didn't make the squad for the Euros even though Willems (who is a left winger by trade) started the games and looked terrible, the likes of Southampton and Swansea were looking at him but didn't make a move so with all that considered he is probably more of a back up for Evra and maybe even Fabio in the long run, rather than an automatic starter, hope he does well though in whatever capacity he is used in

posted on 22/8/12

Rob, he has been less than an average full back for 2 years now.

I don't know how people can say he was good vs Everton, he left his position exposed numerous times in the second half, wasted EVERY chance of crossing (did one beat the first man?) and misplaced a number simple passes at vital moments. I'm sorry but when you are given 15 yards in the final third to run into time after time you need to make use of it, Young was giving him all the room in the world with his movement inside. The same can be said of Valencia and Nani on Monday

The only upside was that for once their wingers weren't tying him in knots, though Osman isn't exactly well known for his dribbling.

I love Evra, has given the club great service and I will always be glad, he is also a great character in the dressing room. However, his form has been possibly the worst out of anybody else in the club over the last two seasons, I seriously don't think that is an understatement.

I agree that he has been very bad in the last 2 seasons. That is not up for debate. But he wasn't as bad on Monday. The only way to 'settle' this is just to give him time and see how he does in the next few weeks. Buttner though is not Evra's replacement, more someone to be there if the worst happens and Evra gets injured.

Evra gets no support from Midfield, how is Scholes gonna track back and help out and therefore whose meant to cover when Evra bombs forward
