I would have liked Dempsey but he's not a striker and that's what we really need.

I don't disagree with that, but why did we put ourselves in a position where we it would like a disaster?

Had Carroll not left we could say 'we didn't want to pay the fee Fulham wanted' now a lot of people would still be moaning, but the sensible ones would understand it because of the reasons you have given.

We've been loose with the chequebook recently and they might just want to send a message that they're no longer going to pay the extra 4-5 mil for a player just because we're viewed as a 'big club' with cash.

Not sure how it makes it look ridiculous. We've signed 5 players this summer. Its not as if we've signed nobody. Dempsey was a player we were interested in but only at a certain price. And our offer was right in my opinion. How can Berbatov be £4m but Dempsey be more. Berbatov is much better player.

Some people are acting as if Dempsey is a world class footballer that we've missed out on. He's not. Its not a massive loss.

Yes but not being funny but at 5M Dempsey is as low risk a signing as you can get. It is too easy to only think of tomorrow and not today.

Someone at the latter stages of their career can inspire their teammates a la Gary McAllister.

Its a good job Joe Allen's ball retention is a strength, he looks like having very few striking options to pass to this season
