Agree about D.T and Blanch the lighting of the flame was very much an iconic sporting image and thinking about it I'm amazed that it wasnt mentioned before

Germany 1 - England 5 in the 2001 World Cup qualifier was evening to remember. Watched down the pub with all the gang, a fab summers evening.

Man U in the 1999 UEFA Cup Final. In stoppage time Teddy and then Solskjær both scored in 3 minutes leaving Bayern Munich players gutted and actually in tears.

This was in the days before the FA sold out our national game to the pirates at Sky, so it was live on terrestrial TV.

Sammy Kuffour punching the grass after above-mentioned goals!

There's been a few that stick out for me:

Michael johnsons 19.32 wr in atlanta 96
Aguero's goal vs QPR
Nayim from the halfway line
Gazza's free-kick against arsenal at wembley (I was there!)

But if I had to pick one - iniesta's goal vs Chelsea in 2009. Thought barca would never find their way past the bus Chelsea had parked, went absolutely bananas when it went in.....

"It's messi..... It's iniestaAAAAA! (oh no),
And the Chelsea fans cover their eyes in horror,
2 minutes into stoppage time...."

Still watch it on YouTube with the sky commentary, still sends shivers down my spine. Epic

Lion-el,

Great goal but Chelsea were robbed blind that night. Absolute disgrace.

My abiding memory from that game is Drogba giving his views to the millions watching!

Right he was n all!

Champagne,

Maybe they were but they know how the away goals rule works. Serves them right for setting up camp in their own penalty box at the camp nou!

It'd be the first time an invasion has worked in the Germans' favour

Lion-el,

Fair point. But the only English sides in recent memory to have tried taking the game to the Catalans are Arsenal and Man Utd. We all know how that worked out!

Chelsea's negativity gets under Barca's skin and has been surprisingly effective more than once.

For me Don Bradman being bowled for a duck by Eric Hollies at the Oval in his final Test innings has to be up there... Only needed four runs to finish with a career average of 100. He was human after all

The image of him walking back to the pavillion in front of a stunned crowd.

1968 olympics, Tommie Smith and John Carlos..the famous salute.

Prince Nasim first foray into the US where the commentator was saying: 'The British talk about his power but we have not seen anything from him as...of...yet'' at that moment nasim unleaches a vicious uppercut....KO...lovely.

Gerry Francis shouting 'f..ing ronny!' in the 6 2 rollicking of southampton as ronny rosenthal scores a blinder for his hat trick

Champagne,

I understand completely where you are coming from, but I hate Chelsea and have a soft spot for Barcelona (hence my name) so watching them go out was priceless.

I can't believe nobody has gone for Sean Bean's excellent performance for Sheffield United in When Saturday Comes...

Would also have to add sir bobby robson's reaction when ronaldo scored that brilliant solo goal for barca back in the day. He's danced/bulldozed through about 4 or 5 players and slotted the ball in and you can see sir bobby on the touchline holding his head with both hands not quite believing what he's seen!

Rivaldo's bicycle kick vs Valencia in 2001 to win the winner-takes-all match to get into the champions league.

Pacquaio knocking hatton clean out in 2009 with that devastating left hook. The way hatton landed slap bang in the middle of the drink slogan on the floor was quite apt...

I imagine the look on Daniel levy's face when Drogba won the champions league for Chelsea was a picture, all that money gone

There has to be one doesn't there , this was a great thread which had fans of many different clubs joining in about some of the iconic moments in our sporting history and then some dickkhead comes along and tries to turn it into a wumfest
