Give the guy a break .. He cannot be expected to win everything after the Us Open win .. The conditions were dyer and to be honest it was anyone's to win .. You only have to look at Westwood and Donald not making the cut to see this .. And are they not 1 and 2 in the world ??

I'm not having a go at the result, but his attitude towards the Open and what might be required of him if he's going to win it.

Perhaps I do need to 'give the guy a break', but you haven't told me why.

Well to be quite frank links golf in my opinion is a complete luxury, hence there isnt that much of it played at the top level compared to other tournaments. You say the weather separates the men from the boys .. Well isnt Mclloroy still learning in some aspects ?? Yes we all know Woods was a master back in the day but there will never be anyone who will win what he has. Golf has become anyones to win these days with there being 7 or 8 quality players. I think the fact that only 4 players finished under par in this tournament shows just how hard it was for the players. Rory will be back with a vegence

I wouldn't doubt it, he'll be a strong favourite for the PGA.

Links golf is a luxury, winning the Open a dream, I would say it deserves a few weeks of preparation, a slightly different style of play and an approach different to 'ill win it when the wind doesn't blow'.

I'm sure Rory isn't putting Clarkes victory down to luck, in fact he's loving it! (bar the fact he now wont be winning SPOTY this year )

Strange words from a kid who first shone in 2008 on the links course, I'm sure he was just frustrated with himself and at 22, gave a quite immature answer, I mean the media expected him to win more than he did to be honest. If Tigers back for the USPGA, then Rory will not be the one man under the spotlight and can probably ease off a little.

Im not a golf fan ,but didnt the same chap (Rory) come out a few years ago and say that the Ryder Cup wasnt that important to play in also ,he is honest if not a little bit dumb

God forbid somebody can actually say what they mean. If he is not considered a breath of fresh air, and a joy to watch then there simply is no hope. Thank god we have players like rory in my lifetime and I will watch him play every chance I get.

the older he will get he will learn how to change his game to suit the courses and conditions.just like tiger did a few years in to his career and after watching tom watson at the open.all you need is a good game plan and know how to play the wind etc.it will come for rory with experience

I've not grown up on links courses and i'm sure the majority of us here hav'nt also. Whatever Rory says is good by me. How many Majors are played on links? I'll never win a Major and i'm guessing that none of us here will. Rory, crack on bud

So if he's behind a tree and cant go over it, he wont adjust his stance/swing to play a shot under it? Course he will. Every round we adjust our game to suit the shot required.

Just sounds sour grapes from young Rory.

Rory is a major champion. Not a bad start is it? Ask the world number one, and the world number too, and a guy who won the european tour 8 times, and Casey, and Poulter, and Rose, and Garcia how many they have between them. Rory gave his opinion and it's great to hear them. He will play in many Opens, and many Ryder Cups, and he will give 100 percent. He doesn't have to like them though. He may get to like them in time but who cares.

"How many Majors are played on links?"

Well...1 out of 4 is a pretty big proportion. I can't believe playing the Masters is that similar to playing the PGA or US Open.

He must have the ability to adapt his game.

If we look at the last 7 majors, Pebble Beach is a links course, and Whistling Straits is set up for links play, so that would be 4 of the last 7?
