I'm not talking about his off the field antics. I'm actually looking at his ability.

Or go and read magazine if you're inclined otherwise.

Biggest load of garbage I have ever read. Denilson, possibly the most technicaly gifted footballer ever, he was toss.

----------------------------

Im sure it is garbage if you cannot understand it. If you have someone with unique vision and understanding of the game you can then use that in your physical body to make the most of it. If your body is not intwined with your mental side then you cannot get the maximum of your ability. Its all in your head, if you have that ability in your mind you can use your body to do things others cant.

Does no-one else think that it is easier to perform if you have better players around you?

Very good point, but Gerrard is all about the individual. His main assets are his drive, pinging a pass, shooting, crosing and his mobility. If he was somebody who relied on movement around him like Xavi or Silva, I'd agree.

It does explain why he hasn't won a league title to an extent, but you could argue the side with Torres, Alonso, Reina and co should have won the league.
----------------------

I heard there was a decent team in Manchester that meant it did not happen.

I take your point about Gerrard's individuality but in the context of this thread surely that just strengthens my point?

I just find it hard to phathom that some people go out of their way to discredit Gerrards ability when the indiviual honurs and comments from legends of the game say otherwise.

I actually think Gerrard could have been better and Houllier should have concentrated on his link up play rather than giving him carte blanche for 5 years.

No mate, it's garbage. Rooney has great vision, but his touch is poor.

Being able to control and dribble with a ball is VERY different to seeing a pass, movement and awareness. VERY different.

Of all the English players from the 90s to now, I'd say Rio is the only one I'd say was as good or better than all his peers in the top leagues.

I agree bar Ashley Cole.

Most of those quotes came during Scholes' retirement. You expect others to say something good.

@ My Gerrard comment
Other CAMs rely heavily on technique/dribble but Gerrard brought something different. At his peak he was totally untouchable. You just couldn't defend him.

Do you guys think Gerrard is better than;

Zinedine Zidane
Paul Scholes
Xavi Hernandez
Andres Iniesta
Pavel Nedved
Patrick Viera
Clarence Seedorf
Claude Makelele
Roy Keane

?

As i said, its garbage to you as it seems that you feel your opinion is king here.

Let me explain, if you are dribbling a ball and someone is near you, you can use your mental strength, your mental awareness to move away or turn etc. Now if you lack that mental courage you cannot do things if you had a strong mind.

Your brain controls everything, any understanding you have of football when younger, or learning experiences in big games, you obtain that anticipation and ability to control and dribble through your mental learning and education.

Free your mind Busbybabes.

I've never understood debating some of these people together, as you say, although they are generically CMs, they are completely different footballers who offer different things to the teams that they perform in.

Regarding Scholes, as a City fan I think he is probably the best English midfielder for the last 20 years. I do think people need to take some of the comments about him with a pinch of salt though. A lot will be to do with players not thinking he got the amount of credit he deserved from the media and awards ( Giggs and Beckham always got more plaudits in the press). If he was more of an outspoken individual, or wanted to be in the limelight more, I doubt people inside the game would have commented on him as much as they did.

If you are not trying to come up with the all time best CM but instead just making a list of them, then for me, Platini has to be part of it.

People nowadays have become so obsessed with having perfect technique/vision/skill, that they forget that the physical attributes of a player can be just as effective.

Gerrard was never as good as Scholes or Xavi, but in his day he was a world class midfielder.

Gerrard better than Iniesta!! So deluded.

Didnt he want a transfer until he was offered more money

Being able to control a ball and being able to see a pass and know your surroundings are two very different things. Plain and simple.

I agree. But equally, being able to keep the ball under pressure is just as impotant.

This is why Barca excell against teams who have these physical players.

Sorry *Xavi.

Gerrard isn't fit to lace his boots.

See. This is why English fans are clueless.

Just cause Gerrard bailed you out with his superhero like longshots, doesn't make him the best around.

In both occasions you use your mind to understand your surroundings. In any case you cannot control a ball if your mind is too preoccupied with your surroundings. That comes with mental learning and mental strength.
