Not many crap footballer get them though and it is the basis of some form of opinion.
On their own I'd agree. As part of a stellar career then I don't. Gerrard has been a World class midfielder and was for many years. Everything tangible backs me up in this.

I hate it when people pull out the individual awards.
---
Gerrard was definitely world-class, his set of skills are fairly unique. I do think he was over-rated though if I'm honest.
It's because Scholes hasn't got many, isn't it?
If he was definitely World class how was he overrated?
If he was definitely World class how was he overrated?
-----------------------------------------------
He was never THE best in the world, just great at what he does.
Has anyone ever thought he was the very best? I know I didn't. Wouldn't have changed him of course but early in his career he had the likes of Zidane and Scholes. Latterly Xavi et al.
He was productive, inspirational and a winner over a long period. A complete footballer who could play anywhere. It's this last point, not particularly relevant to this thread, that I feel is often over looked. World class player.
"So now you're agreeing with me and saying that during the years that he got those pointless awards he was actually World class afterall."
I didn't think so, no. He was a notch below world class imo. Had nothing against people calling him that though.
Felt he was overrated. But that was just me.
"A long time ago in this thread I asked what made you right and everyone else wrong. Not managed that yet have you."
What made me wrong? A few awards and quotes you posted?
We've been past this.
"The thing is 5 million people probably do agree with me. They don't with you. You're arrogant to think otherwise."
Another baseless an idiotic comment by a tool. Bit like your whole argument.
Where are those 5 million people? Pull them out of your ass?
"You are almost literally the only person on this thread who thinks that Gerrard was not World class and now you're changing your tune. How weak. You're a maggot. I imagine that's why I've just seen your own fans asking for you to be banned."
Where did I change my tune? Not only are you a simple minded moron, but you don't know how to read either.
And the fact that you went on my profile and tracked down my comments suggests this argument is way over your head.
You have nothing going for you. Come back with a brain.
"I hate it when people pull out the individual awards.
They are won for all sorts of reasons which aren't necessarily what they should be won for e.g. for being the best in a tournament, longevity, the best player in one match, one moment of genius, a moment that typifies the efforts of the team, scoring an important goal, sometimes for no clear reason, just catching the eye or even pity!"
Well said.
I actually think that the whole personal awards thing is a bit of a weak argument. The number of times we have all laughed at the awards that have been handed out to players over the years, whether player of the month, year, tournament etc. Then we are supposed to take notice of them? Not for me, I'd rather make my own mind up.

I don't think he was a complete footballer. In terms of physical attributes he was complete - but he lacked a mental and tactical understanding of the game.
Different for different positions. If you are talking about pure ability, Zidane and Maradona are unbeatable. Makelele as a purely covering player is the best ever seen in that role. Xavi as the heartbeat of a team. For me, these are the best players ever in their positions but they are completely different types of player.
Dubbed The New Wenger -Sancti Cazorla (U9163)
Elvis was the other one which is why I put almost literally. You're not very good at this are you?
I'm willing to bet that 5 million people still agree with me. For the one person you've found I could find 5 easily on this thread alone. You're one of them!
"He was productive, inspirational and a winner over a long period. A complete footballer who could play anywhere."
None of those are actual footballing talents.
What could he actually do with the ball?
And how does versatility add to his quality as an attacking player?
You get more and more clueless with each point.
Elvis (U7425)
I agree on the awards if they were on their own. They're not. They're alongside things like scoring 26 goals in a season from midfield. A world class strike rate.
Dubbed The New Wenger -Sancti Cazorla (U9163)
Yeah no-one really agrees with you. Not even the Man Utd fans.
Keep digging though this is fun.

Good points. I think in each individual position i would say Zidane was the best number 10, as a central midfielder Xavi gets that one, in terms of forwards, Maradona for what he did was immense but another underrated performer was Garrincha.
"Elvis was the other one which is why I put almost literally. You're not very good at this are you? "
Not very good at what? Changing the context of comments, and failing to understand simple posts? No I am not. I'm learning from the best. The master. You.

And you put 'probably' to be exact which means 'almost certainly'.

Fail.

In my opinion, having watched him my whole adult life, he has been World class as a midfielder.

Did he score 26 goals from midfield? Or was he playing in behind Torres as an SS when he scored all of those?
I have actually argued in the past that Gerrard was, at his peak, better suited to the SS role than a more orthodox CM role. Had he played there for the majority of his career, he'd probably have gone down as world class (in my mind).
The 26 goals was from the right as it goes.
