Transfer Windows

It is one of the most ridiculous rules I have ever seen. If there are going to be transfer windows the least we can do is keep the open and shut at the same time. Last season Zenit signed Arshavin from us nearly 3 weeks after our window closed.

So why is this not a unilateral window with every one closing on the same day & time?

Different countries seasons start and finish at different times, thats Uefa's stance so there it is.

Do UEFA actually control when the transfer window actually opens, or is it actually under the rules of the individual leagues?

I think the rules are agreed upon by the individual leagues and until UEFA take control of it or even FIFA for that matter then the leagues have the option to close their window when they see fit. I may be wrong though.

According to the rules, each national football association decides on the time (such as the dates) of the 'window' but it may not exceed 12 weeks. The second registration period occurs during the season and may not exceed four weeks.

The Russian window has been open for a good while now

Should think about closing it. You know how cold it can get in Russia

Afternoon All,

Agree with the madness that is the transfer window and player merry go round!

I still think, and expecting counter ideas, that managerial changes should only be allowed to occur inside a similar period (not same timing as this would be mental!).

It is not a FIFA matter.

Clubs can "sign" players whenever they want, the "transfer window" is merely the league permitting clubs to register players to the league and national association for Cup competitions. That is where the deadline comes from. UEFA have their own separate deadline for European competitions, which is usually in September.

I don't care about any other club. According to the Press, BR is going to recruit from within. That's got my vote. JimmyTheRed

Would it just be a good idea to scrap the transfer window.

An international break straight after the window shuts is a flukup as well.

Sounds reasonable.

Again that sounds reasonable, surely all it would take a little effort from the FA and PL club chairmen to sync dates with the other associations. They talk to each other to decide on dates for international matches and friendlies, surely if they had the will the FA could also put this on the table. Or have i missed something?

I don't know why we have transfer windows at all.

Football seems to be heading towards a system that says it wants to be the same as any other business, where good business is rewarded and failing businesses are not.

Well in normal business there is no limit on employing staff or poaching from other businesses.

I don't see any benefits that the transfer window has brought. The small clubs still lose all their best players to the bigger clubs. The big clubs still have bigger and better squads than everyone else.

What has the transfer window ever done for us?
