We've already made the same mistake with Lampard and Malouda of offering too long contracts when they're hitting their 30s. Likes of Ballack and I think Drogba got the same offer, a one year deal when they wanted two and they left.
I just woke up totally disorientated and bemused. I quickly realised it was because I stayed up to watch Cowboys v Giants rather than an it being on set of senility like that spurs t wat shandy. Didn't they win something 50 years ago?
I dont see a problem with only offering him a 1 yr contract.
The Club have to reduce the wage bill and it looks like Bertrand on only £35K a week is primed to take over sooner rather than later
its not a lie, its club policy!
most of the top flight clubs operate this policy, we should have done it years ago.
malouda will cost the club 5m this season , which will go against our abilty to comply with FFP.
The club will not loose acole we are trying to strengthen not weaken.
But the arguement is if the player has a good season he will be offered another contract, if he starts to fade he risks the contract.
If Drogba had been on this agreement he may well have been more consistant.
Can actually see Cole ending his career at Chelsea. Quality player and still on top of his game

My understanding is that if Chelsea or any other club misses the break-even target, it can still be granted a licence if it meets two criteria – the trend of losses is improving; and the over-spend is caused by the wages of players that were contracted before June 2010 ( in this case FM) But, that flexibility is only available for the reporting period ending in 2012.
