Glen McGraths demolition of the England top order in the first game of ashes 05. That was the moment I fell in love with the game.

Same series where KP and Freddie were immense

Top stuff El Captain - what a series.

It's a shame that Sky took over the coverage from C4!

What an amazing time for cricket that was. Malcolm Marshall = Frightening? He scared me to death just watching him on the TV
.................

What a man. For me, the greatest fast bowler of them all.

Personal favourite memory, thats difficult. I watched Barry Richards bat at Old Trafford for Hampshire not long before he left County Cricket, he didn't make many but you knew you were watching something special. Could go on all day but he's the greatest batsman in my lifetime IMO. So that's right up there.

When I look at some of the fast bowlers I have watched tearing teams apart (more often than not England) there have been some cracking players. Marshall was probably my favorite too as he seemed to break the West Indies mould not being 6ft 5. But players like Akram, Younis, Ambrose, Walsh, Donald, Mcgrath were shear class. Then you had a guy like Terry Alderman who seemed to bowl with no pace at all but he had our players mesmerized.

Take a look at Hadlee's figures as well he has some cracking stats. Does anyone remember those best all rounder contests they had in the 80's? All those players, Hadlee, Khan, Dev, Botham, Rice and people like Roger Harper in one place knocking hell out of each other. Completely meaningless as a contest but real evidence of a golden age for all rounders.

Barry Richards was a bit before my time but when you listen to guys like benaud its clear that he was something special.

Dern - Not too often mate. Usually 2 or 3 one eay county games a year. Went to a CC match this year though.

Dern

As someone who grew up following England during the miserable 90's, 2005 ranks as my greatest cricketing memory too, and one I don't think will ever be beat. It was like witnessing the culmination of a journey - a team which had grown over the previous 4 years that eventually battered the seemingly invincible Australians off the park! Happy days.

Good article Dern

Best memory was 1992 when I was allowed to skive school and watch the world cup final against England and those two magic deliveries from Akram that swung the game Pakistans way.

World cup finals eh, not the best memories for me, I also stayed off school for the 92 one but I never felt confident with that one when we were batting, Pakistan's bowling always looked to strong . It was 87 where Mike Gatting played his stupid reverse sweep when we were cruising against the Aussies that gutted me.

Best memory: Few in this board can recall that game. WestIndies vs Pakistan at Sharjah in 91 when Windies needed 2 off the last ball to win but Waqar's reverse swing yourker crashed the stumps and Pakistan won the game by 1 run.

I grew up in the 90's supporting England. I was so jealous of that awesome Pakistani pairing of Younis and Akram. Never mind Mustaq.

For me it has to the 81 Ashes: not only for Botham's brilliant innings with the bat; but also Big Bob Willis' 8-43 at Headingly that sealed the Ashes for England against impossible odds

Sorry for being a bit slow with the five stars Dern A very enjoyable thread this.

Nail biting stuff Pak!!

I watched the 81 series not so long ago and that match at headingly was epic!!

Cheers Maski - it will counter balance Pinefresh's 1 star
