Aye, I can't believe they've been cleared tbh...
They did exactly the same for Juninho as we did for several other players.
It doesn;t matter a jot about the scale of the crime, at the end of the day it's the same crime.
An absolute shambles...

Well they said that the arrangements and documentation showed no evidence of any breach of SPL Rules

Why is it shocking??

You are probably well aware that EBT's are not illegal but it would seem that rangers used them incorrectly , hence the investigation by both HMRC and the SPL.

If this was the case then you should be fine

I think not however.

Celtic used the scheme legally and recorded all the necessary documentation with the football authorities.

If Rangers did the same they will be cleared also. Don't hold your breath though.

But Irvine, if Celtic had passed full details that the money in the EBT was part of the players wages, why use an EBT in the first place?

My post was a bit flippant DC. As I understand it when Celtic and Junhino decided to part company Junhino's agent asked for his severence package to be paid through an EBT. Celtic agreed to this and it was set up.

Subsequently someone on the Celtic board expressed some concern about the arrangement and after seeking legal advice Celtic contacted HMRC and the SFA to ensure everything was above board.

Clearly they acted quickly to sort it out, Rangers were running their scheme for years and it wasn't just for severence packages.

hillbillybear - Celtic were dealt with 'in the blink of an eye' because there was no case to answer. Celtic's EBT for Junhino was transparent.

Yet rangers say theirs were also transparent

My prediction is that Rangers are found guilty on some level. I'm not sure if we will have titles stripped etc but I am certain that a fine will be imposed which coincidentally will roughly equal the loss of earnings that SPL clubs are suffering through Rangers absence.

This will be sheer luck and not at all an intentional action to compensate the turkeys who voted for this scenario.

Some people really don't understand EBT's at all, but like to talk about them all day.
If Juninho had an EBT, it could NOT have been declared as part of a contract, because it would have then become an illegal payment...
An EBT can only be a non-contractual loan, so what would possibly prompt Celtic to declare this to the authorities, making it a contractual payment and jeopardise the entire payment?

It seems to me, that Celtic have admitted their guilt and have admitted the payments were contractual.
therefore the case against them is open and shut, yet to the SPL, it was simply "shut" without the open part....

A total disgrace.

Irvine , fair enough but if Rangers do have a case to answer what the bleedin 'll are they waiting for.

If that's the case there will be cleared of any wrongdoing. However according to the BBC they have evidence of over 50 side letters that formed part of players contracts but were never sent to the SFA.

Time will tell.

Irvine - what about Bbs point?

posted on 13/9/12

Anyway I thought EBT's were for employees ,strange Celtic were giving a player an EBT as he's walkin oot the door.

Irvine, Celtic told the BBC they did not declare the payment to either the sfa or spl at the time. So how you can say they were seems strange.

What point? Celtic have been cleared of any wrong doing so that's it. Rangers case will be judged in the same way and if they have done nothing wrong the outcome will be the same.

In other words, you don't know
