A win on "matchday one" sets us up lovely..
It is a very difficult group 3rd would be a great achievement. There is no harm in aiming for 2nd though. It would be catastrophic if Lennon said to the team, "right lads we are pretty much fooked here, hopefully we can sneak 3rd!".
As the saying goes, its a funny ol game. If Greece can win the Euros, we can qualify from this group. I am not saying we definitely will, but we must do our best and try!

Celtic 2 Benfica 0 Hooper, Watt
They sold 3 for well over £100 odd million ffs. They've only played 3 games so far. I believe this to be our best chance of 3 points.
If I'm honest though, we'll keep the bean counters happy this year so I'm hoping for more development. As long as we play to a level of competence I'll be happy.
I honestly think we'll do well...
We've performed better in Europe than we have so far, domestically.
Atmosphere wil have a huge bearing
Assuming Barcelona maintain their advantage over Madrid in 'La Liga' there is no reason for them not to drop key players and hence they have a very good chance of securing 18 points from 18.
That means each of the remaining three teams automatically loses 6 points from the potential 18 they're playing for.
So the maximum Celtic, Benfica and Spartak Moscow can hope for is twelve points. Obviously only one team out of the three can achieve this and it is extremely unlikely that it will happen. Therefore, it is logical to assume that around 7 points will get you through. I'd be surprised if 2nd place and 4th place were only 2 points apart in this group.
If we play to the same level as the qualifiers and get beat then fair enough. If we play like we have in the SPL, fookin unacceptable.
I don't know how good Spartak are but home form key to where we finish. We can beat anybody (except Barca) at home.
Benfica have not played a compeditive match since 2 September and have only played three games.
Keep The Faith bhoys.....................Celtic to win!!!!!!!!

Really want it to be but every time I expect us to win I am let down so maybe thinking negative will have the other effect ..........fluck the games not till Wednesday and got butterflies already
Frick!!!!! Made this article then completely forgot about it and went to do something more important.......like work then came back and theres like 34 comments
Anyway, good to see some sensible comments on here. I think if we do get 3 points on Wed it will set us up nicely, but I just cant see it. Agree 7 is the magic number for qualification but I just think we are a little out of our depth.
In saying that, the monkey is off our back for winning away games in Europe and taking into account last seasons Europa league and this seasons qualifiers we have done quite well. Just wish we had Sammy back......I miss him
