Stats can be misleading though.

One team could just pepper the goal from here there and everywhere. Where as the opposition could be more patient and wait for better opportunities thus having fewer shots but better chances.

I haven't seen any of the other goals from tonight as I was at the match. All I can say is that United were incredibly wasteful in the final third and a better side would have punished us.

From being at the match, who were your best performers?

If you have 100 shots that are actually savable then there is no point in discussing them.. stats are only for historians.

Completely agree with Stretford_Ender85.

Shots do not always mean chances. And posession does not always mean domination.

cant understand why people want to try and explain football with stats. The only stats that matters is goals scored or conceded

De Gea and the defence were good on the whole. 1 or 2 moments but nothing major.

Valencia was very wasteful. Nani exciting but ultimately frustrating. Kagawa was great for 45 mins then disappeared. Van Persie was quiet and sluggish. Scholes had one of those nights.

Going forward I thought we were pretty poor. Final ball letting us down time and time again and bad decisions at times too. And when we did create the openings we failed to take them.

A stuttering start, albeit a winning one. Better than last year though that's for sure. I have literally no expectations for Europe though. After last year and tonight I think it's fair to say that easy games in the CL and very few and far between. Galatasaray played some good stuff tonight.

Fair enough. I thought RVP was poor tonight and after Rooney's poor one game against Everton and everyone demanding him being dropped it'll be interesting to see what they say about RVP this week.

"braga had 38 shots 10 on target"
"lille 26 shots 8 on target"

I think that this says a lot about where the majority of the shots came from. The shooting accuracy is quite simply appalling.

They pressed us like mad. Scholes cant compete with that. Valencia saw a lot of it but his final ball was woeful. Nani ran into Cul de Sacs. RVP seemed disinterested. Thought back 4 did ok esp Raf and Evra. Carrick was solid.. and managed to score. Kagawa looked handy.

We played bad, they played out of their skins yet we still won. Cant see the other two doing much at OT so we should qualify easy enough. (If we have a penalty shoot out we are fooked)

Agreed.

It was a poor performance with only minor glimpses from us. But we won. More than what we can say from last season in same competition.

Not convinced we have the team to win it though. Any decent team with a pressing game and better players than Galatasaray will put us to the sword sadly. As good as he is on the ball, the game past Scholes by at times tonight. We will need to buy a midfielder in January if we're to do anything in Europe.

braga had 38 shots 10 on target and 71% possession
cfr cluj had 29% possession 11 shots and 2 on target.

cfr cluj won 0-2 away. I am so happy the worst team won.

No, the best team won. It's not gymnastics, you don't get points for effort, technical ability, how pretty you execute moves etc. It's football, you win by scoring more goals than the other team.

That Cluj scored will both their on target shots, and Braga failed to with 10, surely makes Cluj the better team, as the aim is to score, not simply have on target shots.

Fed up of people saying carrick was 'solid'. At times his padding was magnificent, and his goal was superb.

I don't get why people look at results and say the best team won. Heck a non league side could have beaten braga if those stats went in there favour. Who would you rather play braga or a non league side who did a smash and grab. Any team who gets lucky can win.

Real madrid man city game was similar but real madrid battering over man city finally came off. Most of the time the top team win because such smash and grabs probably happen once every 10 games.
