Veejay, I still think that Djoko will struggle in he year end period. He has played too many matches this year and some really physical. I think Ferrer and Djoko leads the number of matches and wins this year.
I think that Fed will retain the no.1 spot and I doubt that Murray is aiming no. 1 spot this year. He will probably be saving himself for tour finals and then AO.

I am simply curious to see how Djoko and Murray are going to face from now on.

Murray has yet to show he can be number one. It's going to be his next challenge cause this is where the money is. That is when all your sponsors contracts have the "bingo" clause released and we shoudl not underestimate the money side of the sport. Plus of course it's the for-ever grace to have been world number 1.

Can some see Murray as a world number one?

"On that latter occasion, Federer said: “I really do believe deep down in me he that will win Grand Slams, not just one. I wish him all the best. This is genuine. He works extremely hard. He’s as professional as you can be. Things just didn’t quite turn out for him in the finals that he hoped for. But today I’m sure he got another step closer to a Grand Slam title for him. I really do believe and hope for him that he’s going to win one soon."

Novak Djokovic has been slightly less effusive in his cheerleading for Murray, but even he was moved to say, after administering a savage beating on the Scot in the 2011 Australian Open final, “I want to congratulate Andy for a great two weeks, it was really difficult to play against you. Hopefully you will have another chance to win a Grand Slam trophy and, with your talent, I'm sure you will.”

“It is the normal evolution of a great player and a great talent. You know, I’ve said many times in press conferences that Andy (Murray) would win a Grand Slam and now he has won. He deserves it more than anyone. I am very happy for him.”—Rafael Nadal

If Murray wants to make a run for it,its going to hard as theres not much points up for grabs so he will basically have to win everything from now till and including London. Not impossible but highly unlikely
I cant imagine Murray as no1,but that doesnt mean he cant achieve it

Murray is defending a lot of points and I don't think he has a chance.
Nole would have to stuff it up significantly in order NOT to end up as number one at the end.
Can't wait for WTF!

Murray will be no. 1 next year. Oly win and coming back in fifth set in a slam final has been a big boost for him, he knows he can do it and he will do it.

Earlier it was the case of crossing the final hurdle and now it is done so it is much easier a task than it was before.Murray has been no. 2 in 2009 if I am not mistaken.

He was no 2 in 09 but he couldnt hang onto the ranking for longer then 2 weeks
He has a major under his belt, his biggest opportunity to take the step to the no1 ranking will be at AO,as I think he may find it really hard to defend the U.S.Open

Why? Hasn't Murray's best showing is at USO until now?

posted on 27/9/12

Because Murray hasnt defended a title as far as I can remember ( correct me if Im wrong) ,not even a Masters 1000
Defending a title is much harder then winning it for the 1st time

He has a semi to defend there but certainly that is a good possibility. If the youngsters do not finally become a threat by then, then surely that will be his best chance. I cannot see Federer be that motivated in 2013 and Djoko might feel the pressure. I actually see Murray as a possible for teh FO so certainly less likely due to his mouvement requiring a strong foothold.

Watching Wimbledon final makes me think he has a much better shot there then at RG,but who knows.
He will either have to do what Federer did to get the ranking or win 2 majors in a season

Federer is tough to figure out, every time I think he has lost his motivation he has proven me wrong, but being motivated doesnt automatically equate to winning titles
If he wins AO,could an 18th major motivate him to want to win more ( if thats even possible) or if he doent win AO,could that motivate him to want to win an 18th major?

If he ends the year ranked no1,its hard to think he won't want to make the most of it while it lasts

It will be a sad day if Murray takes number one (properly, at the year end, not for a week or two) with Novak and Federer around at this level. I can't see it happen.

I can't wait for the WTF.

Murray to make number 1? Can't see it to be honest. I don't think he is strong enough mentally to carry the crown.

Some of you lot are desperate!! What will your next hurdle be when Andy completes the number 1 spot!

Im looking foward to seeing Andy again at the WTF!
No doubt another week of coporate entertainment
on behalf of my my favourite Logistics provider
Maybe i will give Gimelstob and Drewett a swerve for lunch this time, they were too much at Wimbers!!

Desperate for what exactly LogieB?
If Andy is no1 then he is no1,besides why don't I see you ever attacking those who claim Federer benefited from a "weak era" ?
Bit hypocritical dont you think?

Vee-Jay, Vee-Jay, Vee-Jay!

Desperate to see Andy fall at every major hurdle put in front of him!
Instead of people saying he "cant" or "wont" acheive certain goals, maybe people should ask the question of him rather than insinuating on him!!

As for your quote that i dont "attack" those who claim Fed benefited from a "weak era" - he did, didn't he? So why attack! Im sorry if im missing something here! Hypocrisy is not somthing that is generally levelled at me, so i would apreaciate you thoughts?

Well done old chap on keeping the replies short on this occasion - un like myself

If Federer benefitted from a weak era then I want to see the proof please
I would also like to know why I have never heard any professional in the game claim Federer benefitted from a weak era
As for being a hypocrite, seriously doubt you would ever say Murray benefited from a weak era if he had won a slam or two during Federers prime years

No one is desperate for Andy to fail,he is the 4th best player, and has been for a while, until he proves he can be the best he will always fall short of expectation,so no need to wish for him to fail cause he most likely will anyway

If you do the math Murray won't be #1 this year, the earliest he can realistically challenge is Australian Open in January/February.

You're right Bill, number 1 spot is a step to far this year, but certainly a possibility at AO.

AO is suddenly a massive Slam for Nole, if he loses that then that's a year without a Slam win.

How is nole going to end the year? He has not done much last year's fall has he?
