It was awful, plus point was Anderson played well but rio was fooking shocking! United use to attack teams all we do is mess around with it at the back, it's not good at all

I'm sorry this may sound harsh, but they are a 2nd rate team at best, we should of thumped them ok we dominated the game but they just sat deep and let us come at them, sorry but I expect better

Wow, we dominated against a poor team who's plan was always to allow united possession and get us on the break. We got the result but it was another unconvincing performance.

After a long long time i saw our midfielders pressing the opposition like crazy.
Clevz, Ando, Rooney, RVP,Fletch were all pressing like crazy. Our defense is a bit suspect but we have 3 of our defenders injured and Rio is not playing at his best right now.

Away games like these are always tough, look at Bayern losing to BATE.
This is the kind of performance which got us to 3 finals in CL.

We needed width throughout the game.

Rooney, ando, cleverley and fletch were good. Best defender today was rafa. Evra and rio meh, dont know what to do really.

We must develop a mentality for going for the jugular. I get the feeling fergie tried to temper their natural tendencies. Ando was not going for runs, back passes everywhere with no overlapping runs. It is the type of football many love these days in europe but just does not work for me.

Our defence has problems. I cannot trust rio right now and evra.... I dont think we have better so they should go on but...

Clevz was superb from start to finish and the way he linked up with Rooney in particular was very good.

Anyone who can't see what a player he's going to be for us isn't looking hard enough. Comfortable in small spaces, great control and distribution too. Hard to believe considering his development. I just pray this guy gets a ful fit season. If he does, he'll be brilliant and you can bookmark this

We played a perfect game and we are rubbish according to you. chelsea won 4-0 but there luck will run out as the opposition had so many sitters missed while chelsea took all theres.

Point is we are now becoming barca mark two. Last year we would have flooded everyone forward, this year we are more measured. We were unlucky against tottenham as they had 3 chances and scored all 3 and we missed about 10 chances.

Any team we play are scared of us so retreat. We now can play 70% ball possession anywhere and create most of the chances. Its upto our strikers to score the goals to win the games. Last year we were open, this year we are more measured and deserve to win most games.

Couldn't disagree more. They made it VERY difficult for us and as Sir Alex just stated, they are very hard to beat at home.

Professional CL performance

There was a time you would have battered a team like clunge!

I was impressed. Had the mindset been to attack more and had we really went for it we could have scored more. The midfield wasn't ran by like it wasn't there and we actually pressed the opposition for the first time in a very long time. I still prefer it with Nani and Kagawa in the side but in Europe, this formation is vital and is a Kagawa swap with Hernandez away from being perfect.

It saddens me that we are going to see scholes and or giggs this weekend. At one point we had 70% possession.

And before you say, yes it was cluj. But we were away so theres that...

What was it that Fletcher recovered from? I forget

Good win for United, you'd think some of your fans would be happy that you're winning while "not playing well" (I didn't see your game). Some people are just impossible to please

Also, it's getting pretty tedious how everything Chelsea do is attributed to luck.

If people are 'very impressed' with that then god knows what you were like when we used to rip teams apart in Europe. You must have exploded with excitement.

That performance wasn't impressive in the slightest. Cluj aren't a good side. In fact that Galati side we beat last season beat this Cluj team to the CL only 12 months ago as they are from the same league.

We used to eat teams like that for breakfast.

The worst thing tonight for me was the complete lack of interest we showed after going 2-1 up. We seemed to just stop playing and hang on to what we had. Away to munich, Juventus etc then fair enough. Against Cluj? We should have gone for goals and killed the game off. They very nearly got two goals back at the end through us being careless and sloppy.

The team has now played 8 games this season and is still to play really well. I'm slightly concerned.

Newcastle will be a MUCH harder test than those bunch of no marks. Get it sorted fergie!

Stretty, i agree , think people are allowing the score take away the performance. It was not a vintage performance. In mitigation probably too many changes, new formation, injured players returning

There was a time we used to batter teams like city. Minnows has improved massively, there's no easy games any more.

Thankful has nothing to do with it. Uefa tends not to want previous champions and finalist to play early for their trophy play at the group stage levels. Its left for david and goliath battles like united and cluj or city and madrid.

The Post Nearly Man

That is such a cliche statement and not true, if anything Cluj are nothing compared to great Steau Bucharest teams of the past. They're any average team with no real CL experience, we won yes but our performance was nothing to be overly pleased with.

newcastle are rubbish. Just take your chances and you win. Don't then a controversial decision against and you can lose points. I reckon we could thrash newcastle 5 or 6-0. We just need to do the right finish.

David and Goliath? united and cluj? Which one was which?

I'm torn.

On the one hand I miss the days when we used to tear new backsides into teams like that. On the other hand the cautious approach has served us better in Europe (last season aside), especially away from home.

I think the team/manager knew that they were going into the match in poor form and that all that mattered was the result. This was a match nobody will ever remember in a few months. 3 points away from home in the CL early in the group stage, job done move on type thing.

Although I'm underwhelmed so far this season that sensation is nothing new at this stage. We always seem to have injuries, players not performing, international breaks, dull CL group stage matches etc. (with a few notable exceptions - 93/94, 06/07, last season, etc when we started really well). I'm still hopeful we will improve significantly and, for all our frustration, we are still winning most games so wait and see I guess.
