I know a lot of people feel the defence is stronger this season, but I pointed out a few games ago that we're still conceding as many goals.
At what point are people going to realise that our defensive problems haven't actually been solved?
Midfield isnt has strong has made out either.
Not enough legs or pace in midfield.
Thats why we can't hit teams on the break, and why we havent beaten a team by more than one goal in the league.
I wont be happy until we've a team that can finish top two.
Hopefully bates will fc uk off and warnock to get some money soon
i wish 'people' would stop saying when will 'people' realise.......to try to prove a point
Jonty its a known fact most of us on here wanted another CB to pair up with Pearce before the season started.
exileindublin...its classic "superior sentience" mentality.
The thing is:
Blackpool - 2 goals from down left flank
Blackburn - 3 goals from crosses (corner)
Cardiff - 2 goals from set pieces
Hull - 2 goals from crosses
Forest - 1 goal from long throw into box
Everton - 1 goal from set piece
Bristol - 2 goals from crosses(1 corner)
Bolton - 2 goals from set pieces
15 of our goals conceded have been from balls into the box! This suggests our defenders cannot deal with high balls, and the keeper is too small to command in the air.
However to say the midfield "isnt as strong as suggested" is wrong.
Not enough legs? Byram beats his man constantly and White is like a whippet! Austin can cover ground aswell. I think you mean our "strikers dnt have the legs"
We have goals coming from every midfield player so far! Austin is the best central midfielder weve had since relegation and Brown is proving very solid .Tongue can pass and scores goals, he is also deceptively good on the ball!
We have scored so many goals this season thx to the midfield play! We have broken up countless attacks thx to our midfield play! We have dominated games from losing positions thx to our midfield play! The facts suggest that our midfield is more than good at its job!
Mike
White is quicker than our players, he isnt anywhere near has fast has made out.
Our midfield drops far too deep and has been dominated in quite a few games.
No pace and not enough mobilty in there for me.
Not saying its far off, but midfield is suspect
maybe we could all just ask a question before thinking we KNOW the answer....what have defenders/midfielders been asked to do in these situations?
Well, at least the gaffer is honest. Taken from his post match interview on the BBC website..
"It's probably my fault that we did not win because I told Rodolph Austin to mark Kevin Davies. He doesn't know much about him and he got caught at two set-pieces so I probably have to hold my hand up."
So for last nights goals at least, a manmarking situation meant Davies was able to do what he did and lets not forget, he has done this in the Prem at set-pieces on occasion for over a decade!
Wolves - 2nd half, our midfield got dominated
Blackpool - midfield got dominated
Peterborough - cant comment on that game
Cardiff - 2nd half midfield got dominated
Blackburn - first half got dominated
Hull city - got dominated
Forest - from 30 mins onwards got dominated
Bristol city - cant comment on that game
Bolton - got dominated for long spells.
Austin needs better with him
You know what I cant believe how badly Bolton are doing. On paper their team last night looked much better than ours. Looked a really decent team!
A lot of their players would walk into our team!
It's not just down to the back 4 to defend set pieces.
We're no different to any other team in the Championship when it comes to conceding goals, we could very easily have taken 3 points last night in the end.
They might not be on great form, but they have serious quality for this league do Bolton.
Bring on Barnsley.
LIW, I agree White is fast but yes he is not sprinter fast and his defensive side is poor.
We shall have to agree to disagree about the midfield on the whole, although i do think we would benefit from a younger version of Brown to go alongside Austin?
In terms of being dominated, you have to remember who we have played so far AND the fact that during this time this FLEDGLING team is still not 100% coherent.
To say we are 5 points off the top with the aforementioned facts taken into account, speaks volumes into account.
Tell you what LIW, post a starting 11 that you would like to see ( within reason ) i bet it wouldnt be to different from the one we have now.

Am not disagreeing with that, I just saying midfield isnt has good has been made out that's all.
The lack of pace is frightening.

You mean from our squad or from anywhere
Well a hybrid of our squad and realistic signings even with takeover.
Bolton have some awesome attacking players, they are poor defensively tho and have not adjusted to the different types of attitude need to do well in this league.
Keeper - Yes
Left back - Id want better than drury- let me think on that one
Pearce - yes
Peltier - centre back only though ( I rate him there)
Right back - Bryam
Douif keep
Austin keep
centre midfield - let me have a think
Burke - wing
Ross - keep
Austin - striker
We certainly dropped a ball signing Paynter and not Austin.
Defo, however not as big as the clanger of not signing Lambert.
outwood, you are forgetting bates is/was io charge. Paynter for free or austin for a fee afforded by burnley due to the benefits of parachute payments and it is low risk signing paynter every time.
Yep I also one who thought we should have someone else to partner Pearce at CB. Also don't like Peltier at right back! Don't like those modern full backs who can't really defend! For me not reliable at RB. Guilty on both goals vs Blackburn for me
