I'm watching a program on chance on BBC4 and I'm sorry to depress you further, but there is only a 1 in 4 probablity that Gartside will get this appointment right
Bricks, don't forget to take into account the law of averages. We have had 3 terrible managers in a row now.
Ah, but CC: if you toss a coin 49 times and get heads 49 times, it's still 50/50 that the next one will be heads - there were huge odds against the unlikely streak before you started, but once the first 49 are out of the way the 50th is subject to the same odds as a one-off. Don't think three bad appointments means our bad luck is over - just as much chance of the next one being a turkey as there was when Sammy lee was first appointed!
Surely Eddy won't risk Gartside having a big influence on the appointment?
Once, Okay we can say unlucky. Twice, this is a coincidence. On the third he probably thought over the last few weeks that has he been a little daft?
Obviously he is a clever chap with a good business mind so I can only assume that enough is enough and PG won't have as much say in appointing his 4th manager? Surely?
WhiteBic, of course he's going to let PG have a big say in it. coyle was the obvious choice at the time, and was very successful for half of his spell here. he was the man the fans wanted and appeared to know what he was doing.
Also, PG brought in big Sam, didn't he?
To add to royston's comment, I think only the appointment of Sammy lee could truly be described as a mistake in the sense that it appeared to be done for the wrong reasons ("If the think you are so good BSA, just watch us with your assistant - Ha - we never needed you in the first place". Megson was appointed to do whatever was required to restore order in place of chaos and if people found it grim and charmless, well he wasn't being paid to be a Butlins redcoat.
Gartside does actually know what he's doing, he didn;t win the job in a raffle.
That wink was meant to be a bracket!
He is probably great in other area's of his work (get fantastic discount on herbal tea apparently ).
We need to choose the right man this time otherwise we will fall in to the abyss. IMO I don't think appointing a manager is his strong point.
Russ 5* from me. Everybody who is able to go tomorrow needs to get the whole stadium rocking.
I must say I also agree with your feelings about the two journeymen, McCarthy & Souness. I could be wrong but neither of them fill me with enthusiasm. I just hope the Jimmy, Sam and Julien get at least three games and win them all. They might even get a chance of being promoted.
True to say that Jimmy has his experience with the youth set up, Sammy is a very good coach and Julien has had some experience at coaching, together they could be a very good management team.
Yes it would be a gamble but so would any manager that we would be able to attract.
